That night of the winter formal, Donghyuck stayed over Renjun's house after they dropped Jaemin and Chenle off. He had informed his parents about it and grabbed some clothes as he headed nextdoor.
Renjun was waiting for him outside the front door, opening it for him to enter. And without any shared words, Donghyuck walked right in and headed straight to Renjun's room, plopping himself face front on the older's bed.
"I know you're going through a lot right now but get your dirty ass off of my bed and take a shower," Renjun told him, throwing a towel at the younger's back who groaned.
Despite all the complaining, Donghyuck complied and took a shower, coming out in his pajamas and slamming himself back on the bed again, Renjun clicking his tongue. The older went to take a shower, coming out ten minutes later in his sleep clothes.
He peeked at Donghyuck, who was already fast asleep. His cheeks were puffed and lips were slightly parted, making him look like an innocent little baby, but Renjun knows this kid is far from innocent sometimes.
The older let out a sigh and slid himself on the other side of the bed, covering them both up with the blanket. He closed his eyes, thoughts ongoing despite him trying to fall asleep but it was too early for him. It's only nine and it's a Friday night. He doesn't usually go to sleep that early, but there's nothing to do if his best friend is asleep.
"Renjunnie, are you asleep?" The conclusions of Donghyuck being asleep was proven wrong once Renjun heard the younger's voice.
"No, what's up?" Renjun responded and Donghyuck turned his body around so that he was laying on his side to face the older.
Donghyuck couldn't help but replay the same humiliating scene that occured earlier this evening. How could he be so stupid to like someone like Mark? How could he be so dumb not to see the signs? His best friend even tried to warn him but he never listened. It's his own fault as to why he's broken like this right now.
He did this to himself. Nobody did this to him.
The younger felt like crying again, his eyes watering and Renjun could see his eyes turn glossy as he still had the lamp on. The older sat up, his back against the head board.
"Hyuckie, don't cry," Renjun pleaded, brining his hand out to wipe the tears that escaped the tanned male's eyes.
Donghyuck only sniffled and scooched himself closer to Renjun, laying his head on his lap, facing the older's stomach and wrapping his arms around the older's small waist. Renjun brought his hands to twirl his fingers through the younger's hair.
As Renjun had said before, Donghyuck had never been one to cry. The younger was always bubbly and happy, smiling all the time. His smile being able to heal anyone's sadness, making everyone's day.
So seeing his best friend so hurt made him sad too. It was one of the many rare times he'd see his best friend cry over something, someone as a matter of fact. But when it did happen, Renjun was always here for his best friend and no matter how many times they've argued, he'd still be here.
And that's something Donghyuck loves most about Renjun. His best friend would always be here for him no matter the time of day or place. He'd be there. He's someone Donghyuck can count on and the younger will forever live by that. It's not everyday that you would be able to find a person like Renjun. Renjun was different. He actually cared for the younger.
"I'm so stupid, aren't I?" Donghyuck let out a pained chuckle in between his sobs, causing Renjun to frown.
"No, you're not so stop thinking that right now. It's not your fault," Renjun semi scolded him, continuing to caress his hair.
"I've officially decided to stop bugging him so much. He obviously doesn't like me and I can't believe I had to endure this just to realize it," Donghyuck buried his head against Renjun's stomach.
"I'm proud of you, Donghyuck. You'll see, he's going to realize he'll be missing out on someone as amazing as you," Renjun told him and the younger faintly nodded.
Within a few hours, the two finally fell asleep. Donghyuck with his head laid on Renjun's stomach while the older was laying on his side, his head near the younger's stomach, keeping Donghyuck's head cradled in his grasp.

It was the next day and Mark had brought his little brother to their grandparents house with suitcases in their hands. Mark honestly tried to avoid going to their grandparents house for the longest time, but he had no choice. They didn't have any food or money and their parents were barely home.
Mark had informed his grandma about the situation they're in and she was more then glad to accept then into their home. His grandmother wasn't the problem, it was his grandfather. He and Mark never really got along so the teen could already sense the awkward tension that is bound to come.
The good thing about staying at their grandparents house was that the schools were much closer than before and their grandma is the greatest cook in the world Mark believes.
The older pressed the doorbell to ring and the door opened, revealing his grandpa who just glared at his presence. Yejun could sense the tension, hugging Mark's leg tighter.
"Oh good! They're here!" Mark heard his grandma cheer, breaking the tension between the two male's.
She came to the door, bringing Mark into a hug and bending down to pick Yejun up.
"You boys are getting so big," she said with a wide smile, pinching Yejun's cheek, happy to see her grandchildren in such a long time.
Besides the fact that Mark and his grandpa do not get along, their parents were usually the ones who'd bring them to their house as they had the car. But since they're barely home and Mark doesn't know how to drive, he walked it with Yejun because he had enough. He doesn't want his baby brother to be starving and be living in such a dangerous environment.
"Come in, come in! Make yourselves at home. I've already called your schools and fixed everything up in the systems," their grandma had spoken, carrying Yejun inside as Mark followed behind while his grandpa closed the door behind them.
This is for Yejun, not for himself.
