With the threat, Saruman levelled his staff at you, and he released a blast of white magic that you really didn't want to know the capabilities of.

You jumped to the side, rolling as you hit the ground and sliding on the sleek black tiles. Blood smeared where you had skidded, but you had no time to stare at it and figure out where it had come from, because you could hear the staff firing off more power.

It was almost more like a dance than a battle, but a dance that was sapping your energy more than you would care to admit.

"Surrender, Your Majesty." Saruman's words dripped with sarcasm. "You will last no longer against me than you would against an entire army."

"That's where you underestimate me," you smirked, and you could see a little bit of his bravado slipping away as you deflected some of his magic with your stolen swords. "I've been trained in combat for years. I will never die at your vile hands."

The Wizard was far more mobile than you would assume, especially given his obvious age and frail appearance, and he lunged towards you, swinging his staff. You met it with both your swords, pushing it away from you as hard as you could.

"Your little friends will not last against Sauron," Saruman taunted. "It is well that you left them - then you can selfishly live and rule your people, correct?"

He had hit the nerve he was aiming for. "I didn't leave them - your Uruk-hai took me! And I know that the Fellowship can win!"

However, as you had been yelling, you were distracted. Saruman had allowed your anger to find him an opening, and he aimed his staff at you, twirling it so that, when energy exploded from it, it hit you square in the chest.

Oh, shit, you barely managed to think, before you slammed into a wall yet again, crumbling to the floor.

It was true that you were well trained in combat, but you couldn't defeat him when you were in such a weakened state. You needed something, someone, like ...

Legolas. Your eyes welled with tears just as the whisper of his name that flitted across your mind. You had never been so desperate just to feel a brush of his fingers against your own.

His voice floated into your mind: Y/N, I'll always stand by you. I promise. No matter where our ... relationship is at, I promise I will.

You knew it was no more than a memory, but your heart still lifted, hoping he would be here.

But it was just you and Saruman, you lying on the black floor with blood seeping out of your body, hopelessly outmatched.

Then, you heard them.

The screams and shouts. The panic.

The sound of rushing water?

You threw a sword wildly in Saruman's direction to distract him (which worked, as plans tend to when you throw a very sharp weapon at your opponent's face), giving you enough time to race out to the balcony and look at what was happening.

When you saw, you really couldn't believe your eyes. Of course, you'd heard of the legendary Ents, but you hadn't thought that they would ever do something like this.

They looked like trees, with wise faces, long limbs, and unbelievable power. They marched upon Isengard, washing it clean with storms of water, roaring and causing general chaos.

"I can't believe it," you gasped, spotting two familiar Hobbits on the shoulders of a large Ent. "Merry and Pippin came through!"

Before you could yell out to them, a hand clamped onto your shoulder, giving you a jolting shock as the owner of it whirled you around and pinned you to the wall with a staff at your throat.

Damn it! You should've tried to escape!

But you realised there was no point in beating yourself up. The only way to escape the Tower of Isengard from where you were would be to jump off ... right onto a wheel of spikes. You'd be impaled for sure.

"Your insolence makes you unsuitable as a leader and warrior," Saruman snarled. "I think I will kill you on the spot after all."

More Ents could be heard roaring, and the whole tower actually began to shake from impact. Water crashed into it, and the place felt as though it might collapse at any given second.

Saruman suddenly stared off into the distance, as though he was receiving ... a vision, of course. His master was Sauron after all. He smiled, and your heart dropped nervously. This couldn't be good.

"Actually, that worthless group you call the Fellowship of the Ring are nearing Isengard. Those despicable trees-" he glared at the Ents. "-may have dented my forces, but that doesn't mean I can't still get something from your ... associates. I'm sure I can get the Ring of Power in exchange for your worthless self."

He didn't know who had the Ring!

You said nothing, just glaring until he removed his spear from your throat. You found your hands bound behind you, and you could almost smile.

This whole ordeal would soon be over, one way or another.

LEGOLAS

Legolas stared at Isengard, and ... was completely and utterly shocked. The whole place was flooded; wrecked, even. He had figured from Merry and Pippin at the entrance that the Ent-March had been a couple of days ago, and that they still had no idea where Saruman or Wormtongue were.

That changed very quickly as she shielded his eyes, looking up at Isengard's tower, to a balcony.

"There!" he shouted, pointing with his right hand, the left reaching for an arrow.

He could see Wormtongue, and Saruman, but just as he was about to fire his bow, Saruman brought something in front of him.

"It can't be ..." Legolas whispered, all the colour leaving his face. "Everyone, lower your weapons, now!"

"That's right!" Saruman's voice boomed from the balcony. "If you attack me, Y/N Y/L/N will die."
