He knows that smoking is bad for you so maybe if your a heavy smoker now and again he'll give you tips and tell you to lay back a bit.
As long as you at least try a nicotine patch he'll get of your case.
If you only smoke now and again if your irritated/stressed he'll ask you what is wrong and keeps an eye to make sure your not slowly becoming addicted

One time he attempted to try one to see why you do it so much but he just had a coughing fit and doesn't see why you like it so much.
He has clan mentality so he probably doesn't know that it's bad for you
When he finds out it is bad for you he'll slap them out of your hand regardless if your a heavy smoker or not.
If you try and sneak a cigarette behind his back he will chase after you.
