"Now everything is grey." ~Jack Avery, Grey

I giggle at Corbyn trying to balance a pencil on his nose.

Plok!

The pencil falls.

"I don't understand!" Corbyn whines. "That guy made it look so easy, and then how can you do it too, but then I can't do it!"

"It's talent, Corbs," I shrug. "And you just don't have it."

He raises his eyebrows. "You obsess over me, and love it when I love you."

I raise my eyebrow back. "I always love when you tell me you love me. I love you more."

He gasps. "You didn't."

"Oh, I did."

"You didn't."

"But I did, Green Bean."

He pouts. "But Izzy!"

"I love you!" I say, wrapping my arms around his waist.

He hugs me back, our little disagreement forgotten. "I love you more."

"Go out to walk?" I ask, peeking up at his INCREDIBLY CUTE face.

He grins. "Sure."

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

We walk to our park hand in hand.

"I am so in love with you," Corbyn whispers in my ear.

"I'm so in love with you," I smile at him.

"Izzy! Corbyn! Wait up!"

We turn around to find Hailey running from the other side of the street, crossing the crosswalk as it leaves only 3 seconds.

"No! Hailey! Stay there!" I yell.

She's halfway through the crosswalk, when a speeding car comes gliding down the street.

"HAILEY!!" I shriek. "Fuck!"

She only has a second to look before the car rams into her.

The cars stops in the middle of the intersection.

I don't care about rules, I run to Hayhay, placing her bloody head on my lap. She looks limp, and weak... and bloody. A tear drops from my eye, landing on her cheek.

"I guess it's my destiny to get hit by a car," she laughs.

I shake my head. "No."

I dial 911.

"We'll get you safe, you'll be okay," I tell Hailey.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"My friend just got- got- got hit by a speeding car," I choke out. "She's bleeding everywhere, a lot, and her head- ribs—"

"Miss, I'm going to need you to calm down," the person says. "Do you have anyone with you who can tell me where you are?"

"Yes," I let the tears fall carelessly.

"Can you give them the phone?"

I give Corbyn the phone, who talks rapidly into the phone.

"At least, I got to see Larry, right?" Hayhay says lightly.

I tear up more. "Yeah."

She sighs, going silent.

That's when I notice everything around us.

The person in the car, a woman, had come out, gasping as she sees Hailey. Cars have stopped, causing traffic. People on the sidewalk take videos, staring at Hayhay.

"They're on their way," Corbyn says, squatting beside me, arm around me.

"Call the others," I whisper.

He nods, kissing my cheek, comforting me.

I hear the sirens start to come closer, getting louder.

An ambulance, 3 police cars...

I try to find a pulse, but there is none.

No pulse?! Fuck! No!

"Hailey, Hailey, stay with me! Don't sleep, stay up!" I gasp, trying to find something to help her.

Corbyn looks at me, I give the most vulnerable look.

"It's too late," I whisper.

Everything goes by in a blur now.

The police people, whoever are picking up Hayhay into a stretcher, asking if I want to go with her, I think I nod, and Corbyn comes too, holding my hand as he calls people. In the emergency room, waiting, crying, our friends arrive, so does Hailey's family. Corbyn explaining everything, crying, hugs. I can't do anything, I'm sitting, I think, but I can't move, nothing's right.

The nurses come out, telling us that Hailey was dead before she even arrived. Not surprised, how dumb are they? I thought I already said that.

And then it hits me.

She's dead.

My best friend.

Hailey Mah is dead.

She's not here anymore.

She's not with us, her eyes won't open.

I'll never see her laugh again, or smile, or dance.

She's gone.

She's dead.
