~Chapter 23~
"Remind me how this happened again" Hadley said as she lifted another one of this idiot's robotic goons and shot him clean out of the city
"This guy is angry about something stupid and we need to fix it before he kills the whole city, same as usual I don't know why you're confused about it" Tony replied
Hadley rolled her eyes
"Seriously Stark? That's not how it always happens" Steve said as he took down a goon
"I didn't say always I said usually completely different" Tony said
"Would you two stop arguing please?" Nat said, "we have bigger things to worry about"
"Yeah yeah I'm on it" Hadley said, hurrying to the lab
She needed to grab one of Tony's devices to shut this guy down so she was trying to be quick about it
She listened in her coms as her teammates made sounds of distress
Hadley was quick to grab the device and shove it in her shorts pockets.
She was still pissed she didn't have a suit anymore but the fate of the city was more important
Suddenly there was a loud crash from the coms followed by Tony letting out a yell
"Tony??" Hadley said quickly
"I- Ah! May need a little help here" he groaned. Hadley heard something that sounded like a punch and panicked, looking around
Then, spotting Mark 41, she got an idea
"Okay... Uh J.A.R.V.I.S.?"
"Yes ma'am?"
"Is there any way I can use Mark 41? It's an emergency"
"Yes ma'am. Stay still for equipment"
"Equip-" Hadley yelped as the pieces of the suit began locking themselves onto her
She looked at her body as it slowly became engulfed by the suit until she was completely covered
She looked around the helmet as the screens popped up, showing descriptions of random things in the room
"Woah..." She mumbled
"Okay J.A.R.V.I.S." she said after a moment, "let's find Tony"
There was a small click before Hadley was rushed out of the lab and out over the city
Hadley scanned the streets below, looking desperately for Tony, his sounds of destress still playing in her ear
Finally she spotted him, battling a particularly large goon with an even bigger hammer
"J.A.R.V.I.S. there!" She said, pointing
The suit pivoted (PIVOT) and dove downward, heading straight for Tony.
She touched down between them and blasted the goon away before quickly grabbing Tony and shooting them far from the battle
Hadley caught her breath as she set him down, landing next to him
"J.A.R.V.I.S. open the face plate" she said softly as the A.I. did as she said
Tony looked up at her in surprise and smiled slightly
"Tony are you alright?" She asked, looking him over
"Yeah.." he said, stepping closer.
He set a hand on her shoulder before pulling her in and pushing his lips onto hers.
Hadley squeaked in surprise, her eyes widening. After a moment of shock, she felt her eyelashes flutter a little as she closed her eyes and kissed him back
The world seemed to disappear as they kissed
Soon the need for oxygen grew too great as they pulled away from each other slightly
"You know.." Tony said softly, "I had a dream like this once.."
Hadley chuckled, looking at him with a small smile
"Of course you did"
Tony smirked lightly and pressed a button on the side of the helmet. Hadley watched as the suit retracted and she was left just as herself
She looked down at herself for a moment then back up at Tony. He smiled at her before bringing her close and kissing her once more
The two kissed again and again for what seemed like hours, forgetting the world around them, all they knew at that moment was each other and the fact that this was finally happening
"Velvet?? Where's that machine!" Steve's voice rang in their ears, causing them to finally pull apart
"Right shit I forgot about that" Hadley said
"You forgot??"
"Yeah yeah I'm coming" Hadley smiled at Tony before teleporting them both back to the battle
Tony was quick to grab the device from her and press it into the villain's chest before activating it
The villain shook mercilessly as he was tased before falling limp to the ground
As he was passed out, one by one his robotic goons fell to the ground as well, deactivating without their master's command
The Avengers looked around for a moment and cheered
But Hadley and Tony? They looked at each other as they rejoiced with the rest
For they had something much more precious to celebrate
