(there are about three years between IM3 and Avengers' AOU so I'm going to do a few chapters of them simply being in love. Then I'll get on track with the movies and the story will get better)
~Chapter 27~
Tony smiled to himself as he adjusted his tie in the mirror
He had quite the evening planned.
It was going to perfect
It had to be for her
He adjusted his tie again and scoffed. He was never nervous
He was Tony Stark
He was amazing with women.
But this wasn't just any woman. This was Hadley
He ran his fingers through his hair before heading to the door, his hands in his pockets.
This wasn't the first time he'd had anxiety about Hadley. He didn't think he was good enough for her
For one, he was older than her, by 15 years! Of course it scared him, he didn't know whether she'd be weirded out by it or not...
(He's currently 42 and she's 27, got a problem with age gap? There's the door)
But when he voiced his concerns, she assured him that she didn't care about his age. All she cared about was that he cared about her. That he showed her a kind of love and care that she hadn't had in years
Then she proceeded to point out that it didn't matter regardless because Cap was in his 90s so age didn't really matter in the tower
Tony tugged at his tie quietly and shook his head
Best not open that can of worms again
Wait no...
Dammit it's open
Tony stopped walking and closed his eyes
He leaned on the wall next to Hadley door quietly and tried to control his breathing
Stop... Not now... Stop
Hadley opened her door and stepped out, closing it behind her
Then she spotted Tony.
She watched him for a moment in confusion before her eyes widened
"Tony! Hey! Hey!" She said, quickly going over, "Are you having an attack?"
Tony shook his head quietly then sighed "okay maybe a little bit.." he mumbled
She quickly pulled him into her room
"Hey hey... It's okay Tony... Just breathe.." she mumbled soothingly to him, rubbing a small spot on his head quietly
She'd learned to deal with this after he had an attack late at night after a nightmare
She muttered quietly to him whilst rubbing the spot
Soon enough, Tony's breathing returned to normal and he laid against her quietly
She waited a moment before speaking "Stark..? You okay?" She asked
Tony glanced at her, messing with the hem of her skirt. He was embarrassed to say the least.
"You look nice.." he mumbled
"Thank you... But Tony, are you okay?" She asked
Tony looked up at her and nodded "Yeah... Thank you" he kissed her nose, earning a small smile
"Want to talk about what happened?"
"Not really"
"That's okay.." she said, giving a reassuring smile
Tony took a small breath before standing "Shall we?" He asked, offering her a hand
Hadley smiled and nodded, taking his hand
Tony nodded and led her out of the room
They slowed their walk as they got to the living area
They both peaked around the corner.
Nat, Bruce, and Steve sat on the couch, doing different things
They hid behind the wall
"How do we get around them?" She asked
"I'll go first, say I'm off to some Stark Industry event, then you go"
"What am I supposed to say?" She asked
"You're going on a date with a really good looking guy" he responded with a cocky smirk
"Narcissist" she teased, rolling her eyes
"Agreed" he replied before going off through the room
Hadley peaked around the corner and watched as Tony flawlessly sold his story and left. He sent her a wink as the elevator doors closed
Hadley huffed and closed her eyes counting to exactly 236 before stepping out and trying to make her way to the elevator
"Hadley? Where are you going?" Nat asked, looking over
"Out" Hadley replied, flushing
"Why're you all dressed up?" Bruce asked
"Because... I have.. a date" she said
All three looked at her in surprise
"What?" Steve said, sitting up
"With who?" Nat said
"Since when do you date?" Bruce asked
"I'd love to explain but... I have to go so... Bye" Hadley said. She waved before quickly running into the elevator
Once the doors were closed she huffed and face palmed
"That was super smooth" a voice startled her
She shrieked and lifted her hand, ready to attack
She looked at Tony in surprise, the billionaire floating in air, a smirk on his face
"Calm down Venus. It's just me" he said
"I thought you left" she said, setting him down
"Nope. Just hid in the elevator" Tony replied, dusting himself off
"Oh" Hadley replied
Tony smiled and pulled her closer "You look beautiful" he said
"Thanks... You look pretty damn good yourself Mr. Stark" she said, messing with his tie
"Mm thank you Miss. Velvet" he replied, rubbing her hips quietly, nudging his nose against her
Hadley giggled softly as the elevator dinged
They both tensed and Hadley quickly grabbed Tony's arm and flipped him, shoving him to the ground, trapping his arm around his back as Clint looked in the elevator
"And that's how you take someone down then they try to attack you" Hadley stated
"Damn Hadley.." Tony mumbled, his voice slightly pained
"Sorry.." she mumbled back
"I'll... Take the vents.." Clint mumbled, walking off
They both watched as the elevator doors closed.
Then they sighed in relief
"That was close.." Hadley mumbled
"Yeah. Can you release my arm?" He asked
"Sorry" she said, helping him up
"It's okay Hun.." he said, dusting himself off, "just proving once again that you're stronger than me"
Hadley chuckled and shrugged "let's go" she said, stepping out of the elevator
Tony smiled and followed
