We did it! The house is dead! We blew it shy high! I climbs down from the crane and walks to the ditch DJ and Chowder jumped into. Jenny runs over as DJ and Chowder emerge from the pit. DJ climbs out and turns around, facing Chowder, who raises his arms victoriously. "Do you guys hear something? It's over there. Come on." DJ said, leading the way as Chowder crawled out of the pit.We made our way through the smoke to find Nebbercracker and Constance's ghost approach each other and dance. "Oh, my dear." Constance's ghost laughs before she ascends and fades away as Nebbercracker realizes she has gone on to Heaven. "Goodbye."
We sympathetically watch as a tearful Nebbercracker drops to his knees. DJ approaches him as the old man extends his hand to the only thing left of his house. A fragment of the door with the doorknob, and holds it up to his face. "I'm... sorry, Mr. Nebbercracker, about your house... and your wife... your housewife."
Nebbercracker looks upwards at. "45 years... we have been trapped for 45 years." He then grabs DJ's wrist. "And now... we're free." He gets to his feet and laughs. "WE'RE FREE!" He embraces DJ in gratitude as Chowder, Jenny, and I approach. "Oh, thank you, friend! Thank you all!" We look at him with smile. "WE'RE FREE!" Chowder, Jenny, and I join in the embrace.
We return to Nebbercracker's lawn, to give his stolen toys back to the kids of the neighborhood, for Halloween. It's not candy but it's the next best thing. "Here you go." DJ said, handing a toy back to a kid. "Thanks." The kid said walking away. "Happy Halloween. Next." A little blonde girl steps up, in a flower costume. She gazes at the pit before speaking. "What happened to Nebbercracker's house?"
DJ looks at the pit then turning to the girl again. "It turned into a monster, so I blew it up." The girl nodded before holding up her plastic pumpkin. "Trick or treat!" DJ turns towards Nebbercracker. "We're gonna need a tricycle."
"One tricycle coming up." Nebbercracker picks a broken tricycle and reattaches the front wheel before handing the tricycle to Chowder. "Tricycle." Chowder said handing it to Jenny. "Tricycle." Jenny said, handing it to me. "Tricycle." I said, handing it to DJ. "Tricycle." DJ said, setting it on the ground for the little girl.
"Hello, tricycle. I missed you so much!" The girl gets on her tricycle and glancing back at Nebbercracker. "Thank you, mister!" She said, as she rides away on it. "Bye now." Her mother said to us. "Happy Halloween." DJ told them.
A car drives up and stop in front of the lawn. "Jenny!" A woman called from the car. Jenny steps up past DJ and I, followed by Chowder. "There's my mom." She holds up her finger. "One sec." She told her mother. "Okay."
Jenny turns around to face DJ and Chowder and slowly walks towards them. "So, um... we should hang out again..." She smiles fondly at them. "...soon." She hugs DJ and Chowder, the two boys close their eyes and smile as Jenny wraps her arms around them. "Yeah." They said, dreamily.
I shook my head at them, with a sigh. Jenny then pulls away from the boys and step up to me. "(Name), if you like..." She plays with her hands nervously. "I like to spend more time with you. Alone. You know... girl to girl." I shrugged my shoulders. "Yeah, that sounds cool."
Jenny smiles as her cheeks turn a little red. "Great!" She then leaps at me for a hug, before pulling away to plant a kiss on my cheek. I frozen in shock as Jenny backed away, waving at me. "See ya!" Jenny runs over to her Mom's car opening the door. "Good luck with the puberty." She told the boys, before she got into the car.
I watched their car drives away, as DJ and Chowder steps up to stand next to me. "Did she just kiss you on the cheek?" DJ asked me. "Man.... Everyone likes (Name)! Even girls!" Chowder said, crossing his arms. I place my hand over my cheek, still very confused. "Girls are weird."
We then turn towards the crater where Nebbercracker's house used to be. "Hey, Mr. Nebbercracker, it's time to go!" DJ told him, the old man looks at all the remaining children's possessions while holding Chowder's basketball. "Oh, you go on. I've got some work to do." He then throws the ball to Chowder.
"All right! Thanks." Chowder said, catching the ball. "I'll see you around." Nebbercracker told us. "All right, bye." We turn to leave. "Hey." We stop, glancing back at Nebbercracker. He wags a finger at us while giving them a stern look. "Stay off my lawn." He then smiles at us and laughs. "I'm just kidding." We all laugh.
We start to walk back to DJ's house on the other side of the street. "You think he'll be okay?" DJ asked us. "Oh, yeah. He'll be fine. He'll go on vacation, get some color. And maybe he'll meet someone new. This time, maybe a nice beach house." Chowder said. "I don't think he'll find a house as nice as Constance." I told him.
DJ's parents have just returned, his mom is opening the trunk to get the giant toothbrush out of it, and his dad is getting out of the car as we approach. "Hey, DJ, look who's here." Chowder said. "Yes, I can see that, thank you." DJ said, sarcastically. "No biggie."
"Hey, kids." Mr. Walters said to us. "Hey, Dad." DI said, just as his mother turns around to see us. "What the heck kind...? No, don't tell me. Let me guess. It's... Dirty pirates?" She asked. "That's it. Dirty pirates." DJ said. "Arr." Chowder said. "Fun, fun. Oh, you look adorable." She playfully rubs Chowder's hair. "Have fun tonight." She closes the trunk and goes into the house with her husband.
Chowder dribbles his ball, then throws it at the hoop, where it gets stuck, showing the jack-o-lantern depiction Nebbercracker's house put on it. "You know, you're right. We're definitely too old for trick-or-treating." Chowder said, to DJ.
"Oh, yeah. No question about it. On the other hand... we've been working all night." DI turn to Chowder and whips his hand over his cheek, to get the dirt off him. He then used the dirt over his eyes and to draw a fake mustache on his face. Chowder gasp in excitement. "Candy time?" He asked, DJ thinks for a moment. "Candy time." Chowder cheers as we run out into the street. "We're back! Yes! Candy!"
DJ jogged besides me as Chowder ran on ahead. "So uh... about that kiss you gave..." I held up my hand to stop him. "Don't read too much into it. I only did it for the candy." I told him. "Oh... yeah of course." DJ looks down disappointed.
I groan and held out my hand to him. DJ looks at my hand then at me, surprised. "What? You want Chowder to get all the best candy?" I asked. DJ smiles and took my hand, and we ran to catch up with Chowder. Ending off this crazy night, with some good old, trick-or-treating.
