Winter is Here

Like powdered sugar it fell and landed,

The hills and fields it thickly blanketed.

It was always cold to the touch

But then again, everyone thought as much.

Winter is here!

Winter is there!

Frost coated windows in intricate swirls and bursts,

While ice hung from the roofs in sharp groups like dragon teeth.

The flames of the hearths in houses danced, the logs always lit first.

And on many doors up and down the street was a single holly wreath.

Winter is here!

Winter is there!

The wax candles were lit aglow,

The wind howled down the streets below.

Stories were told and songs were sung,

And students wished other breaks lasted just as long.

Winter is here!

Winter is there!
