What A Wonderful World

As the days go by

I'm left wondering

Was letting the life

Escape our fingers

Part of our blundering?

For as the buzzy bees and

Bright butterflies start

To disappear from our

Garden, I feel my

hope begin to darken.

The grass is turning grey

And the trees are withering away.

The only green that I have seen

Is the light from my husband's

Phone screen. He shows me

The news in California.

Sequoia National

Park is aflame.

With wildfires

Everywhere, nature

Is dying. Months later,

Russia invades Ukraine.

Every day I hear tales of

People fleeing their homes with

Nothing but the clothes on their back

And legal documents to be able to get

Passports and leave the country while

They still can. Children are dying

in bombings and shellings.

People are wondering

If there is hope.

Homes are destroyed,

The environments around

People are being destroyed,

And it's all because some people

Don't ever feel the requirement or need

To have a caring, beating human heart.

I really only hope that one day,

When my children are able to

Laugh and play, that

This world will

Be peaceful.

Where there's no war,

Only hope and love.

Where the grass is green,

And the sun is shining,

And buzzy bees and

Bright butterflies

Are flitting

Around once

More.
