Here I am, waiting at the airport for my best friend Kieran at 9 o’clock in the morning. Kieran has been to New York for a whole year. That one year has been the longest in the history of my life. Not much happened the past year because this is the only day I could wait for in my entire life! My best friend is coming home once again. Reunited.

I was trying to keep my excitement to a low limit so no one would look at me like I was weird or on drugs or something.

His plane was supposed to land half an hour ago!

I can’t wait much longer. I’m tired of waiting. I’ve known him for my whole life and we’ve never been apart for this long. I'm so impatient.

I was standing on the tip of my toes trying to peak over everybody’s head.

I saw him walking through the arrivals gates that were set up inside the airport. When I saw him, I immediately ran to him, pushing past all the people lined up and jumped into a giant hug then he dropped his bags beside him and wrapped his arms around me. I circled my legs around his waist and he held me so tight, I felt like I was never going to touch the ground again.

“I missed you so unbelievably much! You actually have no idea.” I whispered into his ear. I started crying a little, trying to hide the fact that I was by hiding my head in his shoulder.

“I missed you too Melly Belly” he said pulling away from the hug, and putting me down on the floor. He moved his hand to my face to wipe the fallen tears away slowly from my rosy cheeks. “Why are you crying?” he asked hand still on my face. He smiled at me like it was to reassure my it was okay. He pulled me into another hug.

“Happy tears, Kierie” I said using his nickname. “I’m just so happy to see you again. I don’t want you to leave me again for that long; EVER!!” I said loudly pulling away from his hug and poking him in the chest.

He laughed at me. We both took a chance looking around to see if anyone was staring at us. That’s when I noticed his new body. He’s gotten more muscular! The muscles have gotten bigger.  I took a step back from him and took a closer look at him. The biceps under the short sleeves of his t-shirt, the six-pack you could make the lines out through the shirt. Oh he’d just gotten better in my books!

“When did all this happen?” I said pointing up and down at the visible abs through his very tight button down formal t-shirt.

“I went to the gym most mornings when I was in New York.” He said with a smirk on his face. He picked up his bag and held my hand as I directed him to my car. “I kept waking up too early in the morning because of jet-lag, so I thought I’d get a membership at a gym for the year.”

“Well my dearest friend, it’s done you good” I replied with a big smile plastered on my face.

I’m so happy my best friend is back at home with me. What he doesn’t know is what’s going to happen in the next few hours.

When we finally reached my car, I opened the boot of my car so he could put his luggage in and walked around to the right hand driver’s door. Kieran closed to boot and walked to the other front door and got in. The whole way back to his house we talked about what he did and the things he loved the most about New York. He tried to get me to talk about what I did while he was gone but I didn't want to tell him how depressed I've been without him.

“Can I ask you something, Melissa?” Kieran asked.

“You just did. But sure, go ahead.” I chuckled.

“How come my parents didn’t come to this very momentous occasion?” he said sadly. I quickly turned my head to him and looked him in the eyes. He looked like he was going to cry. I guess it is saddening to notice your own parents didn’t come see you after you’ve been away from home an entire year. I put my hand on his thigh and I felt his hands on top of mine and he curled his fingers around it.

“I’m sorry honey, they had to work.” I said sincerely, turning back to look at the road. “You know how they are. Get up early, do more research. They’re very busy people too. But I guess you’re just stuck with me.” His parents were scientists and apparently before I left they discovered something so they were searching up what it could be. Mr and Mrs Parker were always busy and never looked out for Kieran or his little brother very much but they learned to take care of themselves without their parents. That’s when Kieran decided to take a holiday to get away from them.

“Oh. I just thought they would have put it off for a little while seeing as their eldest son just got back from the very brilliant state of New York.” He said, running his hands through is deep chocolate brown hair.

Kieran had this thing when he was nervous or annoyed, he’d always run a hand through his hair. I’d gotten used to him doing that and realised when he’s about to do it.

“We’re nearly home anyways. I’ll take you back to yours and I’m sleeping over no matter what your old folks say.” I said reassuringly.

The town we lived in wasn’t far from the airport which was really good because I really hated driving long distances unless I really had too, but Kieran was my best friend and I’d do anything for him.

All of my doings are a part of the best friend code and him and I are inseparable. We do everything and everything together since birth till death. Hopefully.
