"Oh no..." the young Madrigal mumbled in fear as he backed away from the tall, muscular guy he'd bumped into. His tiny hands quickly grabbed his cousins arm and pulled her behind him in attempts to shield her from the scary dude.

Mirabel and Camilo had been playing tag, running through the busy village. Since they were only four years old, they didn't have to do as their older siblings did and spend the day doing chores. Instead, they were allowed to freely roam the village an do as their tiny hearts wished. Within reason of course. Camilo and Mirabel found out the hard way that riding the donkeys was not something that was considered to be in reason.

In their defense though, Camilo asked the donkeys if they were okay with it, and the animals didn't say no...

The man slowly turned around, his hands wrapping around the legs of the young girl that sat on his shoulders. She was about the same age as Mirabel and Camilo. Her hair was done in two braids, and headband matching with the color of the skirt she wore as well as the ties keeping her braids in. Her hands rested on top of the man's head, her head nestled into her arms. She had a lazy look on her face as she looked down at the two.

From her perspective, there wasn't anything wrong. She was sitting on her father's shoulders, being far from the ground like she always was when she accompanied him on his trips through the village.

"W-we're sorry sir," Mirabel spoke from behind Camilo, peeking over his shoulder as though they weren't the same height. She was just terrified, so she used Camilo's show of bravery to her advantage. "We won't run into you again—"

"Oh," her father spoke, a smile spreading across his face seeing it wasn't the same kids who would always purposefully run into him in hopes of knocking him down. It was always futile though; the kids only really got on his nerves with their unrelenting attacks. "It's just the two of you. How are you doing, Mirabel and Camilo?"

The girl that sat on his shoulders gasped at the recognition of their names. She tapped the man's head and leaned down so her mouth was near his ear. A series of whispers followed, the man nodding his head at whatever she'd said. The two little Madrigals couldn't help but wonder what she'd whispered. They watched as the man took her off his shoulders and set her on the ground.

She opened her mouth to say something, making direct eye contact with Camilo before she stopped. Hey eyes looked down to her clothes, and she flatted out her skirt. She looked back up and tried again at what she was going to say, "Hello. I am y/n l/n."

There was a slight hesitance. Neither of the kids knew what to do. This had been the first time they had faced being introduced to someone on their own. Camilo and Mirabel's mothers usually handled with affairs like those.

"I'm Mirabel," the girl was the first to recover, moving out from behind Camilo. She did as he father taught her and brought out her hand for the girl she'd just met to shake. They shared a small handshake before looking back to Camilo. He stood dazed, staring at her face with a look Mirabel had never seen her cousin wear before.

"Camilo?" Mirabel's brows furrowed. She snapped her fingers, and just like that, Camilo broke free of his trance.

A light blush covered the kid's cheeks. He slowly started to smile, but he wasn't able to say a word. His hand went up for her to shake just as Mirabel's had, and she did just as she knew to. But she found herself standing awkwardly when Camilo stood still staring into her eyes and not letting go of her hand even after she shook it.

Isabela and Dolores were walking by as they witnessed the scene. The two took one look at Camilo before sharing a glance. Isabela let out a light laugh while Dolores couldn't help but roll her eyes at her brother's peculiarity.

"Camilo, let go of her hand," Dolores gave an amused huff when she saw a blush spread across her brother's cheeks. She and Isabela left after they saw Camilo do as his sister said.

"Sweetie I'm going to do my normal rounds. Please meet me back at the last stop of the day by sunset?" her father asked. He couldn't afford to wait any longer if her wanted to get all of his duties done by the end of the day. The man still needed to go home to make dinner after all.

The girl nodded, "Yes sir!"

And with that, her father left to go on with his day. This left the three kids alone, wondering what to do next. She was quick to come up with and idea though. Camilo also happened to finally realize he had been creepy to hold her hand for so long and still not give his name.

"I'm Camilo."

"I know. Who wants to go ride the donkeys?"

"Me!"
