~Normal POV
The depths were worse than the whole rest of the place combined. They never thought the place could get more creepy. Not only that, they were so far underground at this point they worried they'd find pools of magma.
People's Shadows were down here too. And were willingly putting themselves into the depths. This place was apparently called the "Prison of Regression." The previous Palace rulers they'd encountered, minus Okumura, were here in Shadow form too. It seemed the gist was that Palace rulers "escaped" from the prison and were locked away in their own Palaces. And for some reason, these men were content to have returned here. Even Shido's Shadow said this place was for the best. And the only Shadows they spoke to said the same thing. They were all so indolent and apathetic they assumed the world was going to end soon so they were content to "accept the inevitable." Akira recalled his first conversation with Igor: he said the "ruin" was coming. Was this what he was talking about? Was it finally time for him to do something about that? It took a while, but they'd finally reached the very bottom.
"The hell is this?" Ryuji asked.
"It's huge..." Makoto said, staring up at the structure nervously. "I didn't realize such a gigantic place existed here..."
"Is that where everyone's Treasure is being held?" Haru asked.
"That should be the case," Morgana answered.
"It has an ominously bizarre air about it... It almost feels like a temple of sorts..." Yusuke said.
Akira agreed with their observations. The "temple" before them had a foreboding air around it. Yet their instincts told them to investigate. This was the bottom of Mementos after all. Whatever the Treasure was, it had to be in there.
"...Let's go..."
Inside was a huge open, flat room with hundreds of prison cells lining the circular walls around them. In the center was a huge metal chalice, the size of a small building. It was chained to the floor, and had gears moving on its surface as if it were a machine. Beside it on each side were two hand shaped statues rising from the floor.
"Look at how many there are..." Yusuke said, staring at the walls. "Are those all prison cells?"
"And what's that thing in the middle," Futaba asked.
Akira stared at the chalice unsurely. "I don't know... But it looks... ominous."
"Whatever it is, it's disgustingly grand..." Ann muttered.
"There are no other passages leading out of this room. It appears this is our final destination," Yusuke said.
"Then the Treasure should be somewhere in this room..." Haru said.
"That should be the case..." Akira said, distractedly. He couldn't stop wondering about that giant chalice. Something about it bothered him...
"I think you're right..." Morgana replied, "I can sense it. There's no mistaking that presence. If we get rid of it..." He pointed to the chalice with his paw. "The public should come to its senses."
"But something that large would be impossible to carry out of here..." Yusuke said, worriedly.
"Fox, I don't think it wants us to..." Akira said, "Besides, it's chained down. No, I think we should be fine if we just destroy it..."
"Once we do that, the Metaverse will disappear, right? This is finally it..." Ann said, quietly. Several alarms started blaring around them.
"Oh, I guess it's no surprise we've been discovered." Futaba said, dryly. "That thing isn't gonna just sit back and let itself get destroyed..."
