"𝐓reason?!" Morgana's voice rang through the king's chambers, filled with disbelief and fury.

Standing beside Morgana, I felt the tension radiate off her. I had taken over Gwen's role as her maidservant while Gwen dealt with the news of her father's capture by a sorcerer.

"Yes, Morgana, treason," Uther replied, his tone unyielding. "The blacksmith was consorting with a known enemy."

My brows furrowed as I watched the king take a long drink from his goblet.

"Enemy?" Morgana pressed. "What enemy?"

"Tauren," Arthur answered, drawing my gaze. He leaned on the table where the amber liquid shimmered in the goblet. "The leader of a band of renegade sorcerers sworn to bring down the king."

Morgana shook her head in frustration. "And where is this Tauren now?"

"He escaped," Arthur admitted, avoiding Morgana's and my gaze.

"Well then, how can you be sure?" Morgana walked closer to Arthur, her eyes searching his for answers.

Arthur remained silent, his guilt evident on his face.

I understood that Gwen's father wouldn't aid a sorcerer without a good reason. However, it frustrated me that the king refused to consider Tom's side of the story.

"Because Arthur saw him with his own eyes," Uther interjected, taking another gulp from his goblet.

"Even if the man is who you say he is, you can't sentence Tom to death for just being seen with him!" Morgana exclaimed, her voice trembling with anger.

Uther placed his goblet on the table and faced Morgana. "We believe he was forging weapons for Tauren."

I moved to Morgana's side, trying to calm her. "Morgana—"

"Rubbish!" Morgana retorted. "He would never do such a thing."

"Every man has a price," Uther said, glancing at Arthur.

Arthur slid a lump of gold across the table. "Found this on the blacksmith."

"So? He was paid," Morgana argued, shaking her head. "He's a blacksmith. He could've been paid for shoeing Tauren's horse!"

"In gold?" Uther questioned, his disbelief evident.

"This is madness. You condemn a man with no proof!" Morgana's voice echoed with desperation.

"I have enough proof," Uther declared.

Morgana leaned towards Arthur, whispering fiercely, "Arthur, have you nothing to say?"
