𝐀 cool breeze brushed my white hair out of my face as I leaned against the stone balcony railing, staring into the bustling town square. Below, my dragons were busy roasting a piece of meat with their fiery breath before devouring it. The sight brought a fleeting smile to my lips, a small reprieve from the turmoil within.

It's been almost half a year since my dragons were born, and the war with Queen Rajni shows no signs of ending. Since the dragons' birth, the people of Camelot look at me differently. There's a spark of hope in their eyes whenever they see me, a hope that I fear might be misplaced.

Training dragons is no simple task, and while Uther believes that my dragons will be the key to wiping out Rajni, he doesn't understand how long it takes for dragons to grow and mature.

I refuse to rush them into danger.

"They're getting stronger," Maeve said, pointing to the purple, black, and gold dragons as their scales reflected the sunlight. "They seem close."

I nodded. "Daemon's protective of her."

"Daemon, the black one, right?"

"Yes. Selaerys is the purple one, and Rhaera is the gold one."

Maeve opened her mouth to speak, but the sudden sound of drums echoed throughout the kingdom, cutting her off. I lifted my gaze from my dragons as Selaerys climbed up my arm and settled on my shoulder. We both watched as Uther walked out onto his balcony, surveying his people. Arthur followed, stopping beside his father.

"What's going on?" I asked, leaning closer to Maeve.

She shrugged. "I don't know."

"This is a moment of celebration," Uther's voice boomed across the square. "A moment that will make us stronger."

I straightened, watching the king gather his people.

"As you all know, we are going to war with Queen Rajni of Ayanna. I know some of you are scared, but do not lose faith in your king and the men sent to battle. We will win this war!"

I rolled my eyes. The king's bravado couldn't hide the reality of the situation. His men, valiant as they were, couldn't win against Rajni. She had an enormous dragon, a beast that killed without mercy.

And Rajni herself was a force to be reckoned with, her end game the throne of Albion.

I glanced at my dragons on the stone ledge. They weren't ready.
