-Carl's POV-
Ever since my father's death, Kaila has never been the same.
I still remember what she was like before he died. She was always laughing, always in a cheerful mood, and she was the perfect little sister. When our dad was gone, she was replaced by a silent, cold young girl, and has now developed into a even colder, loud, mouthy, cheeky little bitch.
But I still love her immensely, and not just because she's my little sister, but because I feel as if I need to take my father's place, as he isn't here any more.
I know I'll never be able to replace Dad - nobody could. But I need to look after Kaila, and make sure she stays away from the bad things in life.
Mum has tried to change her, make her happy, but it just doesn't work. I told her that we need to let her get on with her life, and just protect her, and she agreed.
I reckon my mother is a very strong woman. I was older than Kaila when Dad died, and with the help of Matt and Rob, we helped my mum through it. Obviously she's never gotten over him, and neither have Kaila or myself, but she realised that Lennie would of wanted her to carry on, live her life to the full, and that's what she started doing after a while of grieving. She started going out with her friends again, going down town, shopping, doing all the girly-stuff. I noticed that she never got involved with any men, and I understand why. I asked her once if she'd ever thought of getting re-married.
'There is no one I want to marry, Carl,' she'd explained, her eyes clouding over slightly. 'Lennie was the only one for me, and he's gone. I don't want to be with anyone else.'
I had to admit that I agreed with her. Like I said before, nobody in the whole world could ever replace my father. Nobody at all.
Mum has never told me how my dad died. She just said that he'd got involved into an accident, and that he never should of died. I got a bit more information out of Matt and Rob. They'd said that he was in a car crash, but I knew from they way they looked at each other that it was a lie.
I wanted to know how and why my dad died, and I've been trying to figure it out for ages now. I researched for quite a while, and found some old newspapers about his death. The only things I'd found out from them was that he was murdered.
That made me angry.
I wanted to know then who had murdered my dad, and what the hell for. I remember what my dad was like, and he wasn't the kind of person to get on anybody's bad side, SO WHY WAS HE KILLED BY SOME LUNATIC???!!!
I confronted my mum about this, and she just said she didn't want to talk about it. After that, I gave up. I figured that she'd tell me one day, and I'd know everything.
It's been about five years since that, and she still hasn't told me the truth. But the thing is, I don't want to pressure her into telling me. I want her to want to tell me, but I have no clue as to when that would be.
But I've been pretty busy these last few years. First of all, I made my dream come true - I became a famous rugby player.
I still remember how it all happened. I remember playing for the school team, and a rugby manager had come to watch a match one day, and had talked to me about becoming a REAL rugby player, and ever since that amazing day, I've been a rugby player, and I absolutely love it. I just wish my father was here to enjoy the moments with me, but I guess he's watching over me right now, hopefully.
Then I met Cindy, and I knew I'd fallen in love straight away. She was watching a match one day, when my team and I were playing against Scotland, with her father. She was right on the front row, and when the rugby ball landed right in front of her and I went over to fetch it, I knew she was The One.
When she looked at me, it was like nothing else mattered. And when she handed me the ball and my hand accidentally brushed against hers, it was like electricity was passing between us.
The whole match went well, fortunately. I scored a couple of times, and that made us win.
After the match, I went straight out looking for her. Obviously, I got surrounded by fans in two seconds. Literally.
She obviously seen the crowd and came over. She helped me out of the crowd and walked me over to a vacated corner of the parking lot. We spoke for a bit, and then we couldn't take it any longer. I kissed her, and she kissed me back, and after that, we were inseparable.
I drift back to the present and unlock my bedside drawer. I keep it locked because all of my precious things are in there. Photos of my dad that I found in the attic after he'd been killed, photos of the whole family when he was alive, and a little black velvet box.
I grabbed the black velvet box, got it out and re-locked the drawer. Then I opened up the box and stared at the beautiful, very expensive diamond ring that I was planning on giving Cindy.
The thing is, is that it isn't just an ordinary ring that I'm going to give her for her birthday. No way.
I wanna marry her and be with her forever.
I'd bought the ring the other day, and looked at it every day since, figuring out when I should give it to her, and ask her to be mine forever.
Today was the day, and it had all gone according to plan. I had invited her over for dinner, and right now, she is sat downstairs eating my special pasta dish that I made with Kaila and Mum.
I would leave the box right in the middle of the bed, and when Cindy and I came up, I'd let her walk in first and see it. Then I'd walk in, pick up the box, get down on one knee and propose to her, the traditional way.
I was so excited, so when I went back downstairs after leaving the box on my bed, her eyes narrowed at me and she said suspiciously, 'What have you done?'
'Nothing,' I smiled. I sat down and started eating my tasty pasta.
Kaila, Mum and Cindy all exchanged a he-is-so-crap-at-keeping-something-secret look, but I just carried on eating.
After we ate, I kept Cindy downstairs for a bit, and chatted to her, Mum and Kaila for a bit, but then I just couldn't wait any longer. I grabbed Cindy's hand, and whispered in her ear, 'I want to show you something.' She giggled as I pulled her up and ran up the stairs with her. I heard Mum and Kaila sigh, and then laugh.
I stopped outside my bedroom door and told Cindy to go in. She gave me the same look that she had given me at the dinner table, but walked in anyway. She obviously saw the box, because I heard her gasp.
This is it, I thought, excitedly.
I walked in and stood behind her. Then I picked up the box, and got down on my knee, watching her eyes get wider and wider, and then a huge smile spread across her gorgeous face.
I opened the box with and flourish, and said in a very loving voice, 'Cindy, I promise to love you for ever and ever. Will you do me the great honour of becoming my beautiful, darling wife?'
