(Hermione's POV)

(Y/N) sat opposite me as we ate our dinner. The moon was waning, and he was ravenous. Harry had one of his sessions with Snape, and Ron had retreated to the quidditch pitch for an extra training session with Angelina before the DA session. He was getting more and more anxious as the weeks went on and the final quidditch match of the term grew closer. (Y/N) had just shoved his fork full of mince pie into his mouth when he went to grab for the jug of pumpkin juice. It was a little out of his reach however and he ended up knocking it over, sending the contents spilling down the Gryffindor table. A number of seventh years scowled at him and he glared at each of them, his eyes icy. I quickly pulled out my wand and was able to clear the mess before any stern words were shared. "It's just pumpkin juice," I told him as he sulked and crossed his arms.

"Still annoying though," he grumbled, "did you see the way they looked at me!"

"I did, but it's no use getting frustrated over."

He nodded and filled his goblet with water instead, "looking forward to DA?" He'd been getting more interested in the DA sessions as of late. A few weeks ago, he'd performed a reductor curse so strong it had rendered a whole wall of books to a fine black dust, and the week before that he'd levitated Neville so high his back hit the ceiling.

"I am," I smiled, "although I must admit Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad have me a little worried." Umbridge had appointed a number of students to report back to her whenever rules were being broken.

I checked my watch and noticed the time, it was almost seven o'clock. "We better get a move on," I told him, picking up my school bag and swinging it over my shoulder. He followed suit and once there was no table separating us, his fingers intertwined with my own.

"Granger," his voice spoke quietly as we strolled down an empty corridor towards the room of requirement, "watch this." He let go of my hand and held out his open palm a few inches away from us. With a slight flick of his wrist, a ball of flames appeared in his outstretched palm. I could feel my eyes grow wide, I'd never seen someone perform wandless, non-verbal, magic so easily. His hand balled up into a fist, and the fire was gone, just like that.

"How did you do that?" I questioned, "I've read multiple books on wandless magic, and it all looks really advanced."

"Marcus showed me a simple spell when I met him, it's all just intention really," he explained, swishing his hand, and sending over a suit of armour which stood at the corner of the corridor. I drew my wand to put it back upright, but he stopped me. With a simple click of his fingers, it was back up and standing.

(Y/N) must have noticed the frown on my face because he was now staring at me, confused. "What's wrong?" he asked whilst we began to walk back and forth in front of the tapestry.

"I just don't think it's wise taking tips from..."

"A werewolf?" He interrupted, his tone deep.

"One of Greyback's pack."

"Marcus isn't one of the bad ones," he said harshly, "he was just a kid."

"Then why is he still with him?" I retorted.

"Oh, I don't know, perhaps it's because he has nobody else and nowhere else to go?" He jabbed sarcastically, "you should know by now that you can't judge someone off who they're surrounded by." And with that said, (Y/N) stormed off into the room of requirement, leaving me to walk past the tapestry three more times and enter by myself.

((Y/N)'s POV)

Hermione came in a few moments after me. For a short moment I thought she had glanced in my direction, but I turned away from her. Luna stood beside me, listening to Harry patiently. He explained the concept of the patronus charm pretty well, but I wasn't entirely sure I could summon up a happy enough memory to produce the patronus. I had plenty of happy memories with Hermione, but they all seemed shadowy at the moment after our little spat. Every other memory from the past year was dark; anything but happy.
