Authority

Oxford dictionary says - "the power to give orders to people"

Webster dictionary says - "power to influence or command thought, opinion, or behavior"

Is that really all it takes?

Is that really all it takes?

To have a hold of someone

Or to have a hold on someone?

Funny how with a cost comes authority

And with authority comes power

And power could either build or ruin

And to who should I tell

if I am not built but ruined

Who wrecks my work

And there goes my toils unrecognized

By an authoritative figure?

And to who should I tell

To another "so called authority"?

Who probably brought theirs too.

There's more to it than manipulating decisions

There's more to it than influencing opinions

There's more to it than commanding orders

There's more to it than controlling the behavior

Let me redefine authority

Let me delineate power

Authority comes with competence

Not by mere affluence

And power comes with earned reverence

Let me remind you

Let me strike you with the verity

That "All evil commences with the abuse of Power"
