I got to work by gathering the stale pastries and giving them to the stray cats and dogs in the alleyway next to the building. The café was in good condition and I could see that they recently cleaned as well.

I walked into the kitchen and began counting the stock and checking the expiration dates. After I made sure everything was fine I went to sit at one of the tables and placed the paper I had in my hand on the table.I had to pay the café’s rent for this month and counted up all my expenses and outstanding payments. The cost came out more than last month’s mainly because I had to withdraw money for my medical bills.

I sighed and sent the money to the landlord. My landlord was a nice old man who never rushed me on my payments although I always paid on time and he was calm and very friendly.

Lost in thought,my hand drifted to my stomach and I leaned back.It would still take quite some time for the results to be ready and I just have to see whether I am pregnant or not.Now the question was,how would I even tell the father about this unborn child. One would’ve thought that we were old enough to not make such a foolish mistake.I would have understand if the condom broke or something but we didn’t even use protection,so the chances of me being pregnant are very high.

I shook my head and sat up straight.I got back to work with budgeting and making myself more miserable, seeing my finances. If I move in with Javier and Lilly,I would have to temporarily close the café and leave my employees without a job for several months.Or I could check in daily with the café once I live there and make Ferderico an offer. This had me under a lot of stress.

“Ugh,Georgia why do you have to be such a pushover sometimes?”I buried my head in my hands and groaned.

Maybe this was a good thing though.Where else would I find such a tempting offer? And Lilly wasn’t a bad kid,she was just misunderstood and didn’t know how to express yourself.

“Bold of you to assume when you don’t know her and even make up a backstory for her,”I scoffed at myself and placed my head on the cold surface of the table. My mind was all over the place and to any person passing by,I would sound like a total nutjob. With one incident my peaceful life was disrupted.

I stood up and finished up around the café.It was soon to be 6pm soon and I packed up my things and left, not planning to open the café for the night.I closed up and headed out.It was still light out so I hurried to find a cab.I hailed down a cab and it slowed down and stopped next to me. I climbed in and told him my address. The man nodded and we set off to my house.

I saw that he missed a turn and I became wary.No there is still another turn near.I had no need to panic. Then what I feared most happened. He locked the doors.

“Sir,if you don’t mind, please unlock the doors.I’m not comfortable with it being locked,”I said after a while of building up the courage. He glanced at me through the rearview mirror and I held strong eye contact. He looked back to the road.

“See,darling I do this with every passenger I drive because of their safety.Don’t make a fuss about it,”I clenched my teeth and with trembling hands opened my purse and got out my phone. At the perfect timing a call came through. With no hesitance I answered.

“Hello Georgia.I’m calling to inform you about the time-“

“Oh yes,I’m on my way home right now,”I rushed out.The man looked at me through the rearview mirror and narrowed his eyes.

“Pardon?”he asked.I looked out the window and looked at what area we were in.

“The drive is being drawn out so I’ll take a few minutes. Please call the police if I don’t message you in five-ten minutes,”I said calmly while looking at the driver. “Unlock the door, sir,”the man glared at me and took a sharp turn.I didn’t have my seatbelt on so I rolled over the seat and hit my head against the window.

“Georgia?Georgia?!”Javier asked through the phone.

“Call the police right now,”the man hit the brakes and unlocked the car.I climbed out immediately and apparently,so did he.

I couldn’t comprehend anything Javier was saying on the opposite line.I looked at the car’s number plate and memorized it.With my trembling hands,I went into the camera app and snapped multiple photos. The man was charging towards me and my eyes widened. There were only a few kids around that were playing in the street.

“My husband already contacted the police, they’re on their way,”I threatened and the man stopped and looked back at his car.The entire time,I couldn’t stop trembling and I was relieved I could still take action.

The man then turned around abruptly and charged towards me.He tackled me to the ground and I let out a painful gasp.

“Jade’s street, three houses from Jennifer’s Bookstore,”I forced out, hoping Javier heard me.I received a punch to the face and the man grabbed my hair and was about to bang it against the ground,I assumed.I was petrified, the man’s furious face all I could see before me.

“Sir,why are you hurting her?!”I heard high pitched voices and I popped an eye open.Kids stood all around us,looking as terrified as I felt. The man yelled at them before running to his car, hopping inside and speeding away.

The kids gathered around me and put the things that fell from my handbag inside again.I stood up and held my head as dizziness took over.

“Miss, should I go call my parents?”a kid with a mop of dark curls asked and looked towards a house.I steadied myself and the helpful kids supported my legs, well somewhat.

“That would be great thanks,”I said and smiled and winced as my busted lip stung.

The kids kept talking among themselves about different scenarios and how they were going to tell their other friends.I was still in shock,to say the least and I didn’t expect my day to turn out like this.Oh,whatever happened to my peaceful and unbothered life?

The kids opened the gate and led me inside.I could hear a person busy in the backyard and the kid with the luscious curls left my side and ran to where the sound was coming from.Suddenly,I felt really weird being in someone else’s yard.I mean it isn’t every day that you see a beat up woman basically carried by kids.

A man peeked around the corner and I lifted my hand up in greeting. He rushed over and shooed the kids away before helping me.

“Miss are you alright?Do I need to call an ambulance?”the man asked frantically and I shook my head.

“Oh no,I’m fine thank you and I already called someone to-“I got cut off by the sound of screeching tyres.I looked over to see a black Jeep parked near the road.Right then,Javier climbed out of the car.

He was quite far but I could clearly see that it was him.He pulled something out of his pocket and a few seconds later my phone rang.

“Where the hell are you?!”
