The Mirror

As I look in the mirror
I don't recognize this face
There's something familiar
but the reflection
has changed

The aura around it
that once sparked
with energy
hides an unhumbled trace
of a lackluster enemy

I'm confused when I ask
Who are you
Why are you here
For the answer I get
is an arrogant jeer

I try to look past
these untrusting eyes
But the callous reaction
comes as such a surprise

It glares back at me
Showing me
I don't have the right
warning me to go away
I came unprepared
for this fight

Feeling clearly defeated
I give up, turn to leave
Then I hear
a soft whisper
that screams
Hey
Don't go
It's me
