Welcome, readers! If you've come here after reading my first book, "Within the Wings of a Storm," then you are up to speed on what's going on with Sirius Black here in "Black as Night."

If you have NOT read "Within the Wings of a Storm," I highly suggest you do! But the first book was primarily a Snape love story, and I understand some people may not want to read that. If that's you, I will get you up to speed. But if you DO want to read the first book (I hope you will!) then close this part now....because SPOILER ALERT summary below:

.......................................

Sirius Black spends Harry's fifth year in confinement at Grimmauld Place as a wanted Azkaban escapee. One of the few bright spots in his confinement is his engagement to Rhiannon Aspenfell, the beautiful witch from Ilvermorny that the Order of the Phoenix has taken into their custody to protect her from the reach of her father— Lord Voldemort.

After a summer romance with Sirius, Rhiannon is whisked away to Hogwarts to study and train under Professor Snape. Her connection with Snape is powerful, and the two soon fall in love. Sirius is broken hearted to lose her, and it's made worse by forced isolation, dark memories of Azkaban, and long-standing pain from his childhood.

Sirius is in a bad spot when he learns that his godson Harry is in peril at the Ministry of Magic. Voldemort has planted a false image of Sirius in danger, and Harry has walked into a trap to rescue him. Sirius goes to fight and is killed by falling through the veil of Death after being hit by a spell from his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange.

But Rhiannon is there, waiting in the wings, and like her mythical Welsh namesake, possesses a trio of birds with the ability to bring the dead back to life. She brings Sirius back, but Dumbledore orders him to go into hiding once more, so that Harry will not put himself at risk for Sirius's benefit again. Dumbledore and Rhiannon suggest Sirius spend this confinement in the Muggle world, working through all of the trauma he suffered in his childhood, Azkaban, and beyond, to be the best version of himself for when he and Harry are finally reunited.

Which brings us to "Black as Night" and Sirius's new romance...

Despite our male lead coming from a bad spot, the overall feel of "Black as Night" will be lighter and livelier than "Within the Wings of a Storm"— it is the Muggle world, after all! I really hope you'll give both books a read and give me your feedback. Happy reading! 📚 ☕️
