"Chara... Hey.. Wake up..!"
The voice was distant. Held urgency. The small child slowly opened their eyes to find a goat, same size as them.
Asriel. A child. A monster.
At the bottom of Mt Ebott.

Chara was astounded to find a monster. A whole civilization of them.

They were severely injured. Close to death.
Asriel took them to his mother, where the child was healed.

At first, both Asriel and his mother were cautious around the child.
But after spending time with them, they realized they would cause them no harm.

They kept the child with them in the ruins, unbeknownst to the ruler.
King.
King Asgore.

Asriel's father.

Toriel and Asriel hid Chara, in fear of Asgore discovering them.
Today. Well.

They weren't prepared for his early return.

"Mmm.. what..?" Chara muttered, rubbing their eyes.
Their eyes looked up to meet Asriel's.
His were full of worry. Panic.

"Hey there goof. What's up?" The child ask, their voice still raspy.

"Get up..! Come on, please get up!" He whispered, pulling at the sleeve ot their sweater.
Chara obliged, slowly stumbling yet regaining their balance.

"What's with the urgency.." They wondered. Asriel didn't respond.

He guided them out of their now shared room and lead them to a room that was usually locked.
Asriel unlocked it and pushed the child inside, instantly waking them up.

"Wh- Asriel!" Chara called out, confusion evident in their voice. "Just stay quiet! Please Chara!" He asked. He sounded desperate.

So upset.

Chara hesitated but agreed. He let out a sigh of relief before walking towards the trail of stairs. He heard rough and loud footsteps walking up the stairs.

His father, Asgore, reached the top, a stoic look plastered om his face. His gaze softened momentarily once he noticed Asriel. But his uneasy and almost petrified face made that look disappear.

"Asriel."
"Dad." He forced a smile onto his face.

Asgore saw right through it. "What did you do." He asked, his face hardening.
Asriel is quick to shrug his shoulders.

"I did nothing dad."

Asgore scoffed in disbelief yet he let it go. He walked to the kitchen, most likely to find something to eat.

Toriel walked up the stairs, shooting Asriel an uncomfortable look. She was just as nervous.
Just as scared as he was.
For Chara.

That poor human.

However, she was able to wear a stoic face better than Asriel was.
But the goat was tired.

Chara had been here for three. Maybe close to four weeks.

He'd grown attatched to them. It was unbelievable how long they'd managed to hide this from his father.

But he knew.
Asriel knew that he knew.

The way he'd stare at Chara's hiding spot.
How he'd say something about a scent lingering around the house.
The way he knew they were lying.

"Asriel. Come here." Asgore ordered. Startled, the small goat stumbled in surprise.

He quickly regained his balance and skipped to his father, who sat in his chair, paper in hand.

"Tell me, son. You've been quite distant lately." He said, his voice coming off less harsh than Asriel expected.
