Confrontation

Personalities in the Dark

The first week after moving into the life of luxury was great.

It was hard for Killua to adjust to the new apartment, especially when he knew about the lease. However, he couldn't bring it up in front of Gon.

Deep down, he thought that Gon would throw it on his career's follow-up benefits, which he suspects.

On the other hand, the week was full. He had to prepare for Elie's school enrollment and Gon's preparations to start his shift, leaving himself out of that circle and only staying as the helping hand.

Although it seemed that his own life was on pause, he couldn't help but try to get out of that exotic circle. But dread never seemed to crawl out of his heart.

He tried to ignore it.

He always sat on his lounge chair, reading books. Or sitting on the L-shaped couch to watch TV, surfing the channels absentmindedly. Or playing with Elie.

But his heart always skipped a beat whenever Gon joined the action.

And finally, the first day of the second week had begun. Elie went to school, and Gon had to go on the road for three consecutive days.

"Hot!" With one hand, he carried the coffee mug while the other was job-hunting on the internet.

Despite their fight, Killua still wants to work. He did have Elie in mind while searching for whatever job it was.

They don't lack money anymore, he understands, but he feels lonely. He couldn't play the housewife for another week.

Maybe, if a freelance writer vacancy is there somewhere, he could snatch that opportunity. It won't hurt Gon, nor Elie. And he'll stay at home!

He sat on the grey couch. The TV was on and set up on mute. Killua put the hot mug of coffee on the coffee table next to handmade heart-shaped cookies.

It's funny that he likes to drink coffee at night, but how could he allow himself to sleep when he knows that Gon must be back today?

It's the fourth day. Gon must've faced something on the road that delayed him for a day, or whatever. He had to come back yesterday, but he didn't, worrying Killua to death.

He unmuted the TV and surfed through the programs. Elie's asleep in the other room, so he had to lower the volume.

If his heart could have a remote control too, so he could lower his heartbeats…

He's excited to see him after four days.

Elie wanted to wait for him, too, but Killua had to be selfish. Gon must be tired, but Killua won't spare him. He's too horny, and it's Gon's fault.

A sudden door click alerted him.

He perked up, muted the tv, and looked behind him towards the dark corridor.

He heard the silent squeak of the door.

If Killua wasn't waiting for Gon, he would've thought he's a thief.

He jumped off hastily, throwing the fluffy blanket aside. He tacitly jogged towards the front door, but as soon as their eyes met, Killua's excitement was washed away.

Something sharp stabbed his heart. His eyes couldn't focus on one spot, but wherever they looked, they couldn't erase Gon's horrified look.

His clothes, the ones he had worn days ago, weren't red. But they are now.
