O Z Z I E

Saturday, 8:30AM, Millies Breakfast, Sarasota, Florida. It's been a while since we all went out as a family. Mom kinda springed it on us last night after Lorelei left. None of us had anything going on today, which is surprising. Usually mom and dad only get Sundays off, and Miles isn't hanging out with Adam as per usual, he's out of town for the weekend. I have no idea what he'll do without being able to be with Adam for two days, those guys are attached at the hip. But I have no problem with it, they're cute together. I just wish my love life were as successful. I want a girlfriend to hold hands with and cuddle and call cute pet names. Well, to an extent. Most people annoy me, that's another reason I don't have many friends.

"Ozzie, are you excited?" Mom asks

"Yeah, it's been a while since we all got to spend time together."

"Right!" She says happily

Our waiter walks up and gives us menus "Good morning everyone! My name is Lorelei and I will be your server for today! Can I get you started with some drinks?"

"Oh Lorelei! It's so good to see you! I've never seen you here before, why's that?"

"Hello Mrs. Mincal, it's good to see you too. And I just started working here last week, that's probably why I haven't seen you around."

"How exciting! Anyways, I'll have a sweet tea."

"I'll have a coca cola." Miles says

"I'll have a lemonade." My dad says

"I'll have a raspberry lemonade." I say

"Okay, I'll get those out for you." She walks to the kitchen window to give our orders. She walks kinda gracefully in those heels. At Milles, you can either choose to wear flat shoes, heels, or skates if you're a waiter or waitress. She opted for heels, I don't know why though, the skates look super fun.

"Here are your drinks, are you ready to order yet?" She asks

"Yes! I'll have the..." Everyone reads off their orders, until it gets to me. God I hope she doesn't judge me for what I'm about to order.

"I'll have the Stuffed French Toast, Russian Blintzes, a German Apple Pancake, and eggs and bacon."

"Okay, I'll have all those out as soon as I can. Your order may take a long time to come out so sorry for the wait in advance."

"Oh it's no trouble, Ozzie always orders so much food when we come here." Mom says

"Yeah." I say while looking down at the table.

Lorelei walks away and we sit in silence for a moment.

"Im gonna, go to the bathroom."

I bump into Lorelei on the way there. She pauses for a second "Are you okay?" she asks

"Yes. Im sorry"

"Hey." I turn and she walks to whisper in my ear. "Sometimes, while I'm on my break, I sneak the Russian Blintzes left over by customers. They're my favorite." She backs away from my ear. "Don't feel bad about what you order. If I could I'd eat everything here in one sitting. See ya."

"See you." she walks away and I go to the bathroom like I said I would

That was nice of her. Yet again, she does something she doesn't need to, but it still means so much.

I just don't see why her mom had to do that. The snide little comment, I don't know if she did it out of malice, or to shame her, but it didn't feel right. I felt like I should reassure her, I hope I helped at least a little bit. I go to my next set of tables and clean up. Next time I'll choose to wear skates. But of course, the first Saturday I work and all of her family is here. Millies doesn't really get rude customers, the majority of people who come in are sweet old ladies or people working and having breakfast, or someone grabbing a quick bite, it's peaceful, which is the main reason I applied to work here. But Ozzie Mincal, my colleague, my work partner, saw me in my waitress outfit, a short skirt, knee high socks, a button up shirt, and heels. Of course she did, because nothing in this world ever goes right for me. It's a miracle I haven't tripped yet, which is surprising considering the fact that I've only worn heels once in my entire life. Oh, you know how I said that this place is usually quiet and peaceful, key word is usually, because right now, I have a feeling I'm gonna wait on some rude ass customers in a minute. This group of four guys come in, all looking to be around fifteen to seventeen years old, which is unusual because we never get teenagers coming here, honestly this is a first for all of us.
