Marcy P.O.V

I can't believe today was the last day of summer camp. It felt like time flew by so fast! And I think I've gotten a crush on Anne! I really didn't want to say goodbye to her!

But there was a campfire tonight, maybe I could confessing there
when it was over.

Me and Anne spent the whole day talking to each other and playing games together until it was dark outside.

"We should be heading to the campfire
right about now." I reminded.

"Yeah....You know, I'm really going to miss you, Marcy." Anne said, her voice filled with sadness.

"Me too. You made this summer the best one in my life!" I admitted.

"Let's make sure to keep in touch."
Anne told.

"Yes, we should. B-but before we go, I have something I wanted to tell you for quite some time."

While we were in the moment, might as well confess here.

Anne eyes lit up in interest.
"What is it Mar-Mar?"

I gulped.
"Well the thing is...that I..."

"Yes?" Anne prompted, her voice curious.

"I.....

Come on Marcy just say it!

"I really think that you're a great friend!"

Anne's expression changed from hopeful to disappointed.

"Oh, you've been waiting to tell me that all along?"

"Y-yes!"

"Well I think you're a good friend too Marcy! But I don't think you needed me to tell you that to know it."

"You can never be too sure!
Anyways look a the time, we should get going!" I said, quickly running out of the cabin.

Well that was embarrassing....

##########################

When we got there, they were lots of people already there sitting around.

As we sat down on a log, people started exchanging glances, smirking or even whisperer to one another.

It was making me quite nervous.

Me and Anne looked at each other.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"I don't know..."

Then a person boldly asked this:
"So, are you two going out or..."

We both immediately heavily blushed at this, making everyone else smirk.

"Don't think we haven't started noticing the amount of time that you two spend together!" a voice said.

"Yeah, we saw the way you guys looked at each other in the friendly quizzes!"said another.

"And don't forget about the beach!"
another voice chimed in.

They all started at us, anticipating an answer.

I avoided Anne's gaze.

The truth was, I did like her.
I even had a crush on her. But I didn't know if she was interested in girls or even liked me in that way. It wouldn't be worth the chance of losing my only friend, but I needed to tell her how I felt!

I turned to look back up to Anne to see her blushing.

"Well?" someone asked impatiently.

That's it! I'm doing it!

"I can't do this! I can't hold my feelings back anymore!" I declared.

I turned to look at her, feeling my heart pounding.

"Anne, I can't hold back anymore,
so I'll just say it! I love you!"

The people around us gasped and looked at Anne.

Anne's face looked shocked.

"I..... I..... I..." she stuttered.

Oh no....

My eyes darkened with hurt.

"Oh, you don't.....feel that same way?"

"I.....I!" Anne continued.

She can't even say anything! She must hate me...

"I knew this was a mistake!" I yelled, tears in my eyes.

I quickly got up and ran away in the forest.

"Marcy wait!"  Anne called after me, but I ignored her.

I ran in the direction of the amphibious mountain. It was the only place I knew that would be secretive.

Maybe I could hide there for the night until camp is over. At least no one would know about my failure.

Anne probably never want's to see me again....
