"Jack no!" Kate shouts as she runs out towards us. The lights click on and Kate's mother says "What the hell is going on?"
My eyes trail the Ronin sword and Kate's mother continues "And why is there an Avenger in my dining room?"
Dad says "Hi."
Kate says "Technically there's two avengers in your dining room."
Jack lowers the weapon and says "Oh my god, you're acher."
Kate corrects "Hawkeye."
Dad says "Clint." She mutters "It's the branding issue, I'm telling you."
I chuckle and her mom says "And who's the other one Kate?"
I look to Kate and Kate says "Uh, this is Mackenzie, she's a friend of mine."
We all sit down at the dining table so Kate's mother can find out more of what we are doing. Kate defends herself "Hawkeye, Kenzie, and I are working on a case, and we need to use the bathroom. She did. So, we were by the house, we dropped in. No big deal."
"How terrific."
"Working on a case together?"
Kate nods and says "He's my partner."
Dad says "We're not partners." She looks over to him and says "Well, we're friends-slash-partners."
Dad smiles and says "I wouldn't even really describe us as friends."
Kate looks to me and says "and kenzie is my..." Dad and Kate's mother lean forward waiting for the answer. Kate says "She's my.. uh, she's just a really good friend right now. But I mean-"
God what is she doing?
Kate's mom looks to the notification on her phone and says "Someone used my laptop to sign onto my work account ten minutes ago. Any thoughts, Kate? Hawkeye? Mackenzie?"
Kate smiles and says "You'll never get any info out of them. See, CB-one has trouble opening up. And Kenzie is closed off."
"Nobody calls me CB-One."
"I'm just trying it out for a second. Probably some early childhood thing. He thinks he doesn't tell me much, but he or Kenzie ends up telling me all of it."
Dad and I repeat "I tell her nothing."
"I think it's cause I'm generally a chill person. Not all fangirl, "Oh my god, Hawkeye!" "
"Definitely not chill."
I punch his arm giving him a look. Jack says "By the way, thank you... for saving the world."
Dad says "Don't mention it." Kate's mom glares at us and says "I would like my daughter to start telling me the honest truth." Kate nods and says "I logged into your account because I needed information on an actual case with actual people who are actual danger."
