The whole school life and school trip is actually a simulation project made by some students at Hopes Peak that required players to put on a helmet kinda like the NerveGear in SAO and the students are the players apart of the simulation. The simulation was to see how students could handle a situation that required trust and stuff like that. But something happened to the controls that caused the simulation to go from a simple game to a life or death game. If you died like through murder or an execution, the helmet would shock your head causing your brain cells and yourself to die. If you won the simulation the you lived....
In the simulation for the rest of your life. There's no more escape. Once your in. You can't get out.
