No One's POV

PAST

Rhea gripped her sides tightly, head tucked between her knees. A light whimper escaped her that echoed through the small cave. Karliah and Brynjolf held a whispered conversation as Brynjolf did his best to comfort the Dragonborn.

"I didn't think-"

"Well obviously. She's clearly shaken up with this, and you say you don't have any time? Give the girl a break, Brynjolf. The skeleton key can wait a few days for her to recover. Until then, be gentle." Karliah explained sternly, looking to Rhea before standing up and giving the two some silence.

Brynjolf bit the inside of his cheek and brought Rhea close to him. Rhea released her sides and held onto the redhead like a lifeline.

"...he's dead...i killed him..." She choked out, voice rather rough.

"I know, lass. It had to be done."

"He was our friend."

"I know. I'm sorry."

The next few days, Rhea sat at the Throat of the World with Paarthunax, making mindless conversation with the dragon in order to take her thoughts away from Mercer. She was numb to the mention of Mercer ever since. In public, that is.

———

Rhea swallowed thickly, her fingers gripped around her sword as she stared at the bloodied jester on the floor in front of her feet. She choked back tears.

"Cicero...why?"

Cicero held his side tightly, forcing a grin. "Of course...the listener...the one...to kill poor, poor Cicero." He wheezed. "Please...it has to be done, doesn't it?"

Rhea shook her head, slipping her sword back into her holster. She dropped a few vigorous healing potions before exiting the Sanctuary quickly.

Cicero merely watched, dumbfounded.

Rhea was broken-hearted once again. Though, that did change after a time. Actually, a few days later.

———

Rhea stood, trembling as Babette and Nazir stood next to her in the singed Falkreath Sanctuary. The corpse of her former "sister" at her boot. Nazir set a gentle hand on the Nord's shoulder, silent.

"It had to be done." Nazir whispered, earning a harsh flinch from Rhea at the familiar phrase. She simply nodded and snatched the Blade of Woe before leaving, the two others following close behind.

Rhea was beginning to lose hope.

————

Rhea fell to her knees as she swung her last at the World Eater. It hurt, it truly did. It all hurt.

Paarthunax greeted the Dragonborn as she exited the portal. Both were silent as the dragons raged around the mountain.
