a pair of oblivious idiots

You stared yourself down in the mirror. There were piles of clothes scattered around your room, some from the deep, dark corners of your closet; that you hadn't seen in years. As much as you tried to convince yourself you no longer cared about what Akaashi thought, the decision on clothing tonight wasn't stressing you out nearly as much when you thought it was just going to be Bokuto and his boyfriend and dinner tonight.

You weren't going anywhere fancy, so you eventually landed on what was essentially a comfort outfit of yours. Something easy to wear, that didn't squeeze you in any wrong places but still complimented your body and suited your tastes very well. Akaashi had actually never seen you outside of what was basically workout attire. Not that it mattered. You did your makeup the way you liked to wear it on a daily basis and fixed your hair/head-covering just before you left, not bothering to grab a coat.

Akaashi stared himself down in the mirror. He'd carefully selected a pair of loose fitting light blue jeans and a jumper the colour of weak coffee, it had a small smiley face that he had embroidered with white thread on the cuff of the left sleeve. His outfit was not currently the problem, it was his hair. It didn't seem to want to cooperate no matter what he did and kept curling at odd angles. He hated his unruly hair most of the time anyway but today it seemed to somehow be acting out of pure spite.

Normally, he wouldn't put much thought into how he looked from the neck up. He liked fashion and picking his clothes carefully but he figured people would never pay much mind to his face. But you were going to be at this meal. And as futile of a hope it might be, he still did hope that you would spend a bit of time looking at his face.

He sighed in exasperation as he resigned to his fate of a messy head of hair, donning his glasses instead of his contacts with the hope they would do some to help hide the dark circles under his eyes. With a quick glance at his watch, he realized how little time he had so he hastily scooped up his phone; shove his feet into a pair of black converse and threw on an oversized denim jacket.

--

Staring intently at your feet; hands stuffed into your pockets, you hurried in the direction of the restaurant Bokuto had told you to meet him and his boyfriend out. Your mind was racing, mainly with thoughts of Akaashi and how it would be to see him. Undeniably, it would be one of the most awkward experience of your life, you just hoped Bokuto would be enough of a distraction that you didn't have to think too much about navigating a conversation with your ex-crush. Oh, who were you kidding he was still your crush but-

Your thoughts were interrupted when the top of your head connected with something soft but unmoving. You when stumbling backwards, struggling to pull your hands out of your pockets in time to steady yourself. Luckily, as you tilted your head up to see who you had the misfortune of careening into, you felt a strong, warm hand slip behind you onto the small of your back so as to stop you falling flat on your arse.

Hell, you really needed to stop walking around in public staring at your feet. You were already extremely clumsy it was like you wanted to end up sprawled on the floor in a mess of limbs and scraped skin.

"I'm so so-" "Are you a-"
The pair of you spoke at the same time.

It only took a few syllables of that lilting voice for you to recognize it. You looked up through your lashes at the boy that was still holding onto you by the waist. Despite wanting so desperately to be wrong in your guess, you were unsurprised to see Akaashi looming over you.

"You're wearing glasses," What the fuck?, why was that the first thing to come out of your mouth? What on God's green Earth was actually wrong with you?
