Eric and Sam let out a sigh as they walked through the door of the Monroe home.  The two friends had gone to pay their respects to the family later in the day and were leaving with a heavy heart.

Sam had never really liked Aiden, but she'd known him since she'd first arrived here. What troubled her the most was what this event represented, things were changing. The safe heaven that Alexandria offered seemed more ephemeral than ever.

Earlier, on the way to Deanna's house, she and Eric had overheard a few comments and conversations. The arrival of Rick's group was creating doubt and concern. Although Sam could understand, this situation was for her a representation of something that had been going on for a long time and that was slowly coming back to them. The newcomers themselves had not been spared, Sam did not really know Noah yet, but he was a nice and endearing boy. As for Tara, but she forced herself to consider no other outcome than to see her recover.

No information had really leaked out, but this mission had obviously been much more difficult than they could have imagined. Sam tried hard not to let her anxiety get the better of her as she thought about the second mission, two of their people were still out there. Even though he hadn't let it show since their conversation that morning, Sam knew that all of Eric's fears were higher than ever and that nothing could ease them but the return of his beloved one.

Sam spotted Rosita, Maggie and Abraham talking outside the infirmary and slowed down.

"If you want to go, I can take Caleb home if you want," Eric offered, leaning on his crutch, looking tired from all the walking.

"Are you sure you'll be okay to carry him?" Sam asked, unsure.

"Yeah we've done it plenty of times before, look." Eric reached out to the baby, who let out a contented laugh throwing his hands toward the man. Sam helped him adjust Caleb on his hip.

"I'm impressed" she smiled lightly.

She watched them walk away to the sound of laughter that Caleb let out with each jump that Eric made because of his limited mode of movement. Sam could only hope that this would allow her friend to distract himself for a moment.

Sam walked toward the house to be greeted by worried salutations as she stopped in front of the three.

"How is Tara?" she asked genuinely concerned.

"Pete's been in there for hours, apparently he did everything he could, we just have to wait now",
sighed Rosita as she swayed from one foot to the other with her arms crossed. Beside her, Abraham wore a worried look as he looked toward the door of the infirmary.

"If you need anyth..." Sam began before she was cut off by the door opening to Pete. She met his gaze as he walked down the steps.

"You can go see her if you want, maybe talking to her will help", he added without even taking the time to stop and explain to them the situation. Jessie and the kids were at Deanna's house and Sam watched him walk away and felt her stomach twist, praying he would somehow fall asleep before they got home.
