We went to the boat shed and JJ led Kie and I to the entrance and opened up the door revealing the Phantom. Kie and I pulled a face at the boat because it doesn't look like this amazing boat JJ has talked about.
"There she is. Hey girl" JJ said pulling off the sheet from the front of the boat
"He likes a boat more than me" I said to Kie making her laugh
"A 1983 Formula 402 SR1. The Phantom" JJ told us with pure happiness on his face.
"Do you need a minute alone with the boat JJ?" I asked my smitten boyfriend
"The first boat to make the run to Bermuda in under 16 hours, Sav" He said looking at me with a smile "Forty years old! Forty. And still the fastest thing that Kildare's ever seen"
"It's kind of a junker" Kie said looking at the boat
"Yeah, JJ are you sure this boat will run?" I asked him
"Really? She's right there guys. She can hear you" JJ says to us looking shocked "Let's just put it this way. You would not be smoking weed right now if she never existed, okay?"
"I just hope it runs" Kie said looking to me
"I just hope she's fast" I added to her comment
"Oh, she'll run all right. She's faster than any cutters the boys in blue got" JJ said as we heard Popes dirtbike arrive.
"Pope! Finally!" Kie yelled and ran off to greet him but came face to face with Rafe.
"Shit, Sav come here" JJ said pulling me behind him but as he did that I saw Barry.
"Uh JJ, we have company" I said as he turned around to see Barry.
"Hey guys, what's going on? How are you guys doing?" Rafe asked jumping on the boat
"Well well" Barry said pointing his gun right at JJ who raised his hands in the air
"See, don't think I forgot about me and you on the side of the road" Barry said making JJ nervous as Kie and I stood behind him holding hands
"I'm here because I want my mother fucking money" Barry yelled as he pushed JJ to the ground
"JJ" Kie and I yelled at the same time but Rafe grabbed us both
"Rafe!" We yelled at him as Barry had JJ pinned on the ground
"It's not you we want girls, where is John B" Rafe said to us
"We don't know!" I yelled as Kie slapped him across the face
"JJ" I yelled running over to him as Barry kicked him in the side
"Stay right there Savannah or pretty boy gets a bullet" Barry said pointing the gun at JJ again making me freeze
"You murdered Peterkin" I heard Kie yell at Rafe making Barry stop and look up at Rafe.
"Just help Kie" JJ said as Barry came back to hitting him asking for his money, Rafe began to strangle Kie.
"Get off of her" I yelled at Rafe before jumping on his back but he threw me to the ground making my head hit the concrete hard and I met JJ's eyes across the room as we were both on the ground.
"Hey! Don't touch her" Pope yelled coming from nowhere and hitting Rafe with a metal pipe making him release his grip on Kie.
I got up to help her as Pope was repeatedly punching Rafe, Barry came over to help Rafe but JJ tripped him over making him drop the gun on the floor.
"Sav! Kick it" JJ yelled at me as I kicked the gun under the boat and out of reach which made JJ jump up and start punching Barry against the boat.
"Kie we need to stop him, he's going to kill him" I yelled watching Pope beat Rafe
"Pope. Okay Pope" Kie and I were yelling at him
"Hey Pope, he's had enough dude" JJ said coming over to help us stop Pope "Snap out of it man"
"Pope! Get off! Stop!" I yelled as he began strangling Rafe, JJ jumped behind him trying to make him stop
"Oh my god" I said watching Rafe about to pass out
"Look at me!" Kie yelled, making Pope look at her and let go of Rafe.
"We have to go, now!" I yelled at my friends
"Stay off the cut" Pope said to Rafe
"Pope, let's go now" I said, dragging him to the car.
"Can we just have one day without a fight, for once?" I asked my friends as we got in the car and headed towards the dump.
It was sunset now and we had the boat loaded up into the water ready for John B who should have been here by now.
"Where is he?" I asked sighing
"Give him a second, he'll be here" Pope said assuring me
"Hey, he's coming. He'll be fine" JJ said while doing the finishing touches to the boat.
"JJ!" I yelled as we heard sirens and saw a police car pull up in front of us.
"Get back on the boat" JJ yelled to us making us all head towards the boat
"Wait, what the?" I asked looking up and seeing my brother get out of the police car, I ran and hugged him so tight.
"Shoupe let me take it for a spin" He said making us all laugh because that was so unbelievable
"Okay, that's believable" Kie said sarcastically as she hugged John B "I'll buy that for now"
"It wasn't easy bro, but I got the Phantom for you and she runs like she was made yesterday" JJ said standing on the front of the boat throwing the keys to John B.
"You ready to go?" I asked my brother, trying not to cry
"Where's Sarah?" John B asked "We got separated in the swamp, she said she'd meet me here" He was looking for her
"We haven't seen her JB but you need to go" I said looking at my brother
"I'm not leaving without her" John B said looking in my eyes
"John B, look at me" JJ bent down to look into John B's eyes "I know you feel bad for leaving but there's no time man. You've got plenty of gas, plenty of food. Once you get around that point, it's a straight shot across the sound to Dismal Swamp okay? Once you get there, lay low, all right? Hang out for a couple of weeks and then go overland, cross the border at Brownsville, you got that?" JJ said noticing John B wasn't paying attention
"Hey! You got that?" I hit my brothers shoulder to get his attention
"Yeah, yeah Brownsville" He said nodding
"All right, saddle her up saltwater cowboy. Let's do this" JJ said jumping off the boat and grabbing my hand, I was a second away from crying.
"Hey, I'm sorry for basically throwing us off a cliff with this whole treasure hunt thing" John B said as he started crying making all of us cry
"John B, yo, we were bound to run off a cliff at some point, right?" JJ said, putting his arm around Kie and I. "At least we did it together though. Pogue style"
"John B you have to go, please now" I said looking at my brother
"Hey, I'll be back for you. I promise. I love you little sister" John B looked at me and it took everything in me not to jump on that boat and go with him
"I'm not saying goodbye to you, I love you" I said back to my brother as JJ grabbed my hand
"I'll look after her JB" JJ said kissing my forehead
"We'll see you in two months, down in Mexico" Pope said to John B
"Love you" JJ said to his best friend
"Wait, tell Sarah I said goodbye, okay?" John B asked us and I nodded at him
"Don't forget. Cross the border at Brownsville, okay" JJ said before we all pushed the boat out and waved goodbye.
