Chapter 9: Not Liking These Lycans

Your dad had went back inside and grabbed some bolt cutters to unlock the gate to move forward. You went forwards to the next house and when you got inside you heard static and saw it coming from a radio. Your dad messed around with the radio while you barracaded the door and looked around for something to cover the scratch on your face with. "No luck with the radio?" you asked him. He sighed and shook his head no. You followed him up the stairs but one of the steps broke under his weight so you had to skip it. When your dad went to pick up some ammo he saw, another one of those things jumped scared you and broke through the window with its arm. Your dad shot at it a couple of times until it jumped away and disappeared from your sight. You were now surrounded by those things trying to get to you. Your dad shot as many as he could but it was no use. Those things were bullet sponges. "Y/n!" your dad screamed and then you felt claws in your back. You stumbled forward and your dad shot it away. You touched your wound and hissed, "fuck!". Soon the monsters disappeared and you unbarricaded the door. Your dad lifted your shirt to inspect your wound, you gritted your teeth in pain. "Here" he said and took off his undershirt and wrapped it around your wound and tied it. Just as you were about to walk out the radio started working. You heard a female voice say "hello? If there are any survivors out there, come to my-- to Luiza's house near the fields". "So there are survivors?" you questioned. "It looks like it, we should head over there" your dad says. You go out the door and followed the blood path to your left. You go up some stairs onto a porch, those monsters now dropped onto to the ground from the roof. Your dad quickly headshot him and his head exploded. Your dad shot their bodies until they fell or got a lucky headshot that exploded their head. After the surrounding enemies were down you went back down the stairs and through the path that was created by the gates being knocked down. There was a little stream and more monsters, you just made your way around the side of them. After a while of running around the houses caught on fire from the monsters with flaming arrows. Soon you hear loud stomping feet and deep growling, you saw your dad suddenly go down after an arrow pierced through his thigh. The monster went to hit him but you tackled him and kicked his stomach, making him fall back. Monsters then surrounded you and knocked you to the ground with their weapons. They swung both you and your dad through the air, you landed hardly in the rocky stream. You looked up and saw monsters on horses with torches. You were completely surround by them. You looked over to the roof of one of the houses and you saw a big version of those things. The weapon it held would kill you with one hit. Your eyes widened as it jumped down to you. It growled into the cold morning air and you could see it's breath. It seemed about ready to kill you both until it looked towards something and then jumped off towards it. The crowd of monsters following with. Your dad turned towards the arrow in his leg and pulled it out. He covered his chewed up left hand with a bandage. You looked over to a big red gate where a very old lady stood. She started to walk away. "Wait, w-wait..." your dad said to her but she kept walking. You helped your dad up and you ran to catch up with her. When you got closer she said "in life and in death, we give glory...". "Uh, hello? You shouldn't be out here. It's not safe. What the hell? Hey, can you hear me?" your dad asked her. She turned towards him and said "it's you? The child's father". "Child? Hey, wait -- do you mean Rose? Is she here?" your dad asked frantically. "Rose, Rose, yes! She is in great danger. Since Mother Miranda brought her to the village, we have fallen into darkness!" she said creepily. "What are you talking about? The monsters?" your dad asks. You looked up toward the castle ahead as she said "the castle bell heralds danger! They're coming!". "No, wait! Where's Rose? Who's "Mother Miranda"?" your dad fired questions at her. "The bell tolls for us all! They're coming again!" she said and went back through the red doors, closing them as she laughed. You stared in disbelief, that bitch was crazy. You shook your head and regained focus. You went into the closest house and found a document, those werewolf monster things were called lycans. You went back out into the cold and followed the main path. There was a broken down graveyard, and doors with torches on each side. You couldn't get in quite yet and needed to find something to put in the door. You went through an open gate and went into the building that was closest to you. You found a map and your dad found a gun. There was also some sort of crest, probably to put in the big doors. You made your way to a cornfield, there were some of those monsters but your dad shot them down. When you went through the door of a house you heard a female voice say "close the door! Please!". You saw a young female, maybe in her twenties. She looked frightened. "Hey, what are you doing here?" your dad asked her. You walked a little closer and saw an older looking man, he was hurt. He held up his weapon and said "stay back!". "Please, don't hurt us!" the girl, who you presumed to be his daughter, said. "Whoa. It's ok. I'm not gonna hurt you. I'm just glad to see normal people at last. Have you seen any other survivors?" your dad asked them. "No, they're all in Luiza's house. And she's not answering, and the gate is locked" the lady said. "Quiet, girl! He's an outsider!" the old man said. You then heard more of those monsters. "Shit, we're sitting ducks in here. Can your old man walk?" your dad asks. "No, one of the monsters cut him! He's lost a lot of blood- we have to get into Luiza's house!" she said with shallow breaths. "Shh...quiet!" your dad said and put his hands up. "Well there must be a way inside" you said. Your dad nods and says "stay here, be quiet, and don't move until we get those gates open". The old man starts coughing and then you head out of the open window. To your left you see a blue tarp over something and jump onto it, you then jump over a hole in the brick fence. You and your dad open the big gate and the lady helps her dad through. The man looks at you and your dad and says "took your damn time". "You're fucking welcome" you spit at the man. You help your dad close the gate again. "He's not used to relying on other people. I'm sorry. We'll be safe in here, won't we?" she asks. "Safer here than out there, that's for sure. Hey, do you know anything about what's going on around here?" your dad asks her. "It doesn't make any sense. Mother Miranda has always protected us-" she answered. "Nobody's answering! Come help me-" the old man says. "Yeah I'll help you alright, I'll help you right off a cliff" you whisper under your breath and your dad coughs to cover it up and looks at you with wide eyes. The old man crumples in pain and your dad nudges you to come help him knock on the door. You roll your eyes and huff but follow him anyway. You pound on the door and your dad screams "hello? Anybody home?". "Maybe a familiar voice... Luiza, open up! It's me, Elena!". The door opens slightly and you see a gun pointed at who you now know as Elena's head. "Stop shouting. You'll draw the monsters!" a guy says but sounds more like a boy who hasn't hit puberty yet. "lulian, calm down-" Elena says. lulian then points his gun at us and says "who's this?". "A friend-" Elena answers. "Stay back!" he says and puts the barrel of the gun on your dad's chest. The old man coughs and Elena says "for god's sake, lulian, let us in". "No, no, they'll smell the blood- You'll endanger us all!" he shouts. "My father will die out here!" Elena says frantically. "That's not my problem!" lulian says coldly. "Okay listen here asshat, you're gonna let this pretty lady and her father in and you're gonna shut your fucking mouth before I shut it for you" you say and get in his face. You hear a female voice say "what's going on?". "These people want to let a dying man into our home" he says. "Come now. "These people" are our friends. Go on, go inside. Come now, this way" the lady says and leads Elena and her father inside. lulian tightens his grip on the gun and points it at you, your dad pulls you back. The lady comes back outside and says "you're not from this village...". "Uh, no. I'm Ethan, this is my son, y/n" your dad says. She turns to the asshat and says "lulian, go make yourself useful and check the grounds. I said go!". He walks away and she comes up closer to you and says "well, if Elena trusts you...then so do I. Come inside, Ethan, y/n". You walk inside and give lulian a dirty look as you pass by him. "Wait here, I'll check on the others" the lady says and walks away. You sigh and look around, it looks pretty cozy. A couple minutes later the lady comes back and leads you to a room will survivors. When you go into the room a pissed off drunk guy says "what the fuck is this? Outsiders -- you're going to get us all killed!". "Quiet, Anton! They helped Leonardo and Elena" who you presume is Luiza, says. "We were doing fine by ourselves!" Leonardo says. "Asshole" you mumble. "Please, Ethan, y/n, take a seat" Luiza says and pulls out chairs for you. You take a seat and feel the immediate relief you get from letting your body rest. "Is this all that's left? From your entire village?" your dad asks. Anton gets pissed and says "all that's left? All that's left? There is no one left! A worthless invalid! A stupid, wailing bitch...! And you! You drag a bloody man and outsiders in here like it's nothing... ...and expect to be all safe? There is no safe! Every sorry bastard out there has been ripped in half! But tomorrow... Tomorrow we'll all be dead. Just like her damn husband! Put a sock in it, Roxana!". You scratch the back of your neck awkwardly. "That's enough! This house has protected my family for generations. And drunk or not, you are all welcome -- and safe -- in here" Luiza says. "Whatever" the drunk man says and goes to take his seat again. "Can someone please tell us what the hell is going on here?" your dad asks. "We don't know. One day we were a quiet, devout village and the next the monsters came and attacked us. And they -- they kept coming, and-" Luiza answered but got cut off. "Wait, Luiza, where is your husband? Did they...?" Elena asks. "No, n-no. He is out there -- somewhere... H-he he went to get help. Yes, yes, that's -- that's it. He went to fetch help" Luiza says unsure. "Let's pray" Elena says. You want no part in that so you get up and let them pray, which really just sounded like a creepy ass ritual. You're tired of all this bullshit talk so you plug your ears for the rest of it. Well until Leonardo starts acting weird. He gets up with his machete in his hand. You can already see where this is going. He knocks the lantern off the table and a fire breaks out. He quickly turns and stabs Luiza right in the heart. She falls to the ground dead. Leonardo jumps up onto the ceiling like a lycan would. Your dad pushes Elena back and you follow him into a hallway. Leonardo quickly kills the people in the room and your dad pushes you behind him. Leonardo gets on top of your dad but Elena shoots him off. The house starts to collapse and you have to find a way out. You don't care for the sappy shit and let your dad take care of that. You go into the room behind you. You look around and find the car key and a screwdriver. You give it to your dad and he gets in the truck. He Rams into the wall and it opens up a different path. You hop onto the truck and walk up the stairs. Your dad takes his jacket off and turns to you "here buddy, put it over your mouth". You do and it helps with not breathing in the smoke. You walk up onto flimsy boards and it's cracks under your weight. You get to the top and your dad helps Elena. You walk over to the open window and breathe in some fresh air. You see Elena go after her father after you hear him say her name. You sigh and bow your head, already knowing what's coming. She falls to her death and your dad is pissed. You look back once and then jump down out of the window. You make it to the ground and you see something that requires the screw driver. "Dad over here, the other part for the door is in here" you say. He comes over and undoes it, he grabs the other crest. Afterwards you hand him back his jacket and he puts it on. You hear gunshots and when you open the gate you see lulian get killed by a witch looking lady. She laughs and disappears. You have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of her soon. You have a bad feeling about what lies ahead.
