Chapter 14: Time To Take Charge

When you made it to the main area you saw giant signs that Heisenberg set up, telling you which way to go to get Rose back. You followed them and your dad opened the six winged door. You were faced with an army of lycans as you made your way to where Heisenberg wanted you to go. Your dad and you decided to not waste ammo and only kill the ones you had to. You booked it through the inside cave thing where they lived. You made your way down a bunch of stairs until you met the big beast from earlier. He jumped down and swung his big hammer. You rolled out of the way in time though. You knew your gun wasn't powerful enough to do damage to it. You decided to draw it's attention and have your dad keep shooting at it with his powerful guns. It went down soon enough after a few rounds of chase. You followed your dad down a staircase that lead you to the fourth flask. There was the flask on the desk and a note with a staticy T.V next to it. Your dad took the final flask and stared off into nothingness for a second. "W...what?" your dad said. You just stared at him in confusion until the static on the T.V stopped and Heisenberg talked. "You're the real deal, Ethan. Well done" Heisenberg said. "Quit hiding, asshole. I'm not letting you get out of this" your dad replies. Heisenberg laughs and says "cool your jets. Just a little bit more and you're all wrapped up. I'll lend you a hand, so in exchange...". "In exchange what?" you ask. "First of all, come to me. Put all the flasks in the altar, and I'm sure you'll figure the rest out. See you, Ethan, y/n" Heisenberg says and then disconnects from the T.V. A pathway then opens up and you follow your dad down it and then into another boat. You're not on it for long until you make your way to another docking place. You follow your dad up a ladder and realize you're in the graveyard. You make your way the altar where your dad places the four flasks in it. He gets a giant chalice from it. Torches light up the pathway in a line and you follow them. As you walk across the stone bridge everything starts to shake and you hear some kind of boom. "What's going on!?" your dad questions aloud. You walk up the stairs and to the ceremony site where those torches are lit up too. Your dad puts the giant chalice in the middle of the ceremony site. The circle on which you stand then lowers into the ground. When it stops you walk out into a different part of the Village. You see a factory in the distance, Heisenberg's factory. Over the loudspeaker Heisenberg speaks, "don't worry about the kid, Ethan. It'll be fine Just get your ass across the bridge!". You follow across the stone bridge and up to the gate. "Ah, Ethan and y/n Winters. Welcome. I didn't think you'd make it past Donna or Moreau, but I suppose you survived worse back in America, hm? I like you, both of you. I'd like to speak to you about Rose, and Miranda. Oh come on in. Don't worry, it's not a trap" Heisenberg says as he opens the door to his factory for you and your dad. You walk in and your dad asks "what're you planning?". You walk down some stairs and through a dark, cold hallway. You make your way to a room where your dad finds a cloth covering something, he pulls it away and you find a bunch of pictures with red X's over the three lord's you've killed so far. "What the hell...?" your dad asks. You then realize there's a picture of your mom. "Mia!?" your dad says stunned. "Truth hurts, don't it?" you hear Heisenberg say as you spin around fast. Your dad draws his gun and points it at him but you don't find Heisenberg as too much of a threat to you. "Let me guess. You're thinking take me out like the others, and then you get to go and save Rose, right?" he says. "I'm healing my daughter" your dad says bitterly. "Look, y-you've got this all wrong." he says but then gets interrupted by a chainsaw. "Dammit, I'm talking here! Shut your fucking hole!" he screams down to the person below. "Sorry about that. Take a seat" he says and puts a seat down for your dad. "Y/n, why don't you stay by me" he says to you. You just shrug and do what he says. "Listen, Ethan, y/n. You're being played" Heisenberg says. "What are you talking about? You think this is a game?" your dad questions him. Heisenberg throws something at the wall and places his hand firmly on your dad's shoulder, "I said sit!", and pushes him down into the chair. "Lady super-sized bitch... Ugly-ass psycho doll... ...and that moronic freak. Don't you get it? It's a test, to see if you two are strong enough... ... to be part of Miranda's family" he explains. Your dad nods his head when Heisenberg's back is turned and you walk over to him. "We don't WANT to be part of Miranda's family--" your dad answers. "Well neither did I! But here we are. And I'm next in line, right? Kill me, move up the chain! Well, fuck that!" Heisenberg yells getting more frustrated now. "I don't give a damn about your personal issues! I just want to fix my daughter!" your dad spits. "Um I kind of do" you say and raise your hand but your dad pulls it down. "Adults are talking y/n" your dad says and keeps his eyes trained on Heisenberg. You roll your eyes and keep your distance from your dad, edging more towards Heisenberg. Speaking of Heisenberg he turns around and looks at your dad saying "so do I! Do you have any idea how powerful that kid is? Even Miranda's scared of her--". The dude with the chainsaw starts it up again and Heisenberg becomes frustrated, "last time, you freak, I swear to god...!". He takes a deep breath and then continues "you, me and y/n, Ethan. Together we go save Rose, and then we can use her to grind Miranda into paste". "My daughter is not a weapon! Fuck you!" your dad angrily says. Heisenberg then kicks his chair and holds him up by his arm. "Last chance. You don't want to find out what's in that hole" Heisenberg says. "I'll take my chances" your dad answers. "Your funeral" he says and then let's your dad go as he falls into the hole. Heisenberg stands up straight and looks to you. "Now, what should I do with you?" he asks you. You just shrug, "honestly I was kind of into your plan" you said. He laughed and said "I knew I liked you". Heisenberg brought you to his sort of work room. You knew you probably should've gone with your dad but Heisenberg was on your side and he seemed like the only one who was. But you knew if it came down to him or your dad you'd still choose your dad. You talked to him for a while, about how he didn't want to be what he was. You felt for him, you really did. As you expected though your dad made his way through the factory. Heisenberg growled in frustration and then looked at you. He sighed and then took off his gold clock necklace, he came over to you and put it around your neck. "See you soon kid" he said and then took off. Soon your dad came through the door. "Y/n, are you okay? Did he hurt you?" your dad asks. "No I'm fine" you say and hide the necklace under your shirt. You follow your dad out the door and down to the platform below. You climb up a small ladder and onto a thin beam. You put your hands out so you keep your balance. You then get to some sort of cart and your dad pulls a lever. The cart takes you upwards and then a little inwards to a platform. You go through a door into some sort of storage room. Your dad went to open the double doors but they were locked. The metal bars on the windows of the door starts shaking and your dad backed up. You knew it was Heisenberg. You turned around as metal shards got thrown at you and your dad. You ducked and then stood up as Heisenberg approached and said "not bad, not bad. Winters. You're persistent, but I've got a rebellion to lead... ...so stay out of my way". "No offence little Winters, but I've got a job to do and you're no longer part of the plan" he says and looks to you. You begin to shrink in on yourself, you thought he was your friend. He pushes both you and your dad out of the door and to the edge. "Don't. Come. Back!" he says and then hits the both of you off the edge. You flail a little as you fall to what you assume is your death until you hit water and sink a little. You flap your arms around trying to catch your bearings and then swim up to the surface and gasp for air. Your dad grabs you and helps you up to the platform. You cough a little and rub your now burning nose because water flew up it. "I'm going to kill him myself" you say and clench your jaw shut. Your dad finds a rusty old vent and rips it off. You follow him through the opening and then help him move a heavy piece of metal out of the way. You hear some rattling around and since it's dark you can't see what it is and you both draw your guns. Someone pushes your dad's gun down and says "gimme that". You see that it's Chris and reholster your weapon. Chris punches and pushes your dad to the ground. "I told you to leave it alone, Ethan. You two are in the way" he says. "What do you care, Chris? You killed my wife, the mother of my children, you son of a bitch!" your dad yells back. You feel some tears well up in your eyes and you blink them back. Chris turns around and says "you think I'd kill Mia? That wasn't her! It was Miranda". You feel your whole world fall apart, your head fills with questions. "...what?" you ask in disbelief. Chris then turns on the lights and you see a big weapon thing he seems to be working on. "She's a bioweapon. She changed her appearance and pretended to be Mia. It seems she also survived being shot, so now I'm here to finish the job" Chris answers. You just stand there stunned as your dad gets up with rage and says "bullshit! Why didn't you fucking tell me right away!?". "Because I knew you would want to be involved! And this job is hard enough without civilians getting in the way" Chris answered. You feel yourself start to move impulsively over to Chris and your mouth start to open. Before you can think about anything you start to talk, "why us, Chris? What the hell is going on!? Where is my mom!?". "All right Ethan, y/n, all right. I guess I owe you an explanation. Hand me that wrench" Chris says. Your dad hands him the wrench and then he begins to explain everything. By the end of his explaining you're sitting down trying to process everything. "Long story short, Miranda's fucking insane. And this village, all these monsters and freaks...this is her life's work. Some sort of crazy experiment with the mold" Chris says. "The mold. Like Louisiana. Goddammit. All this time, I thought I could save my family... I can't escape from here... I can't do anything!" your dad says. You look up as Chris gets what he's working on started. "That might not be true. Take a look at this. My men sent those pictures a few minutes ago" Chris says and you look over your dad's shoulder. "Miranda" you say. "Keep looking" Chris says and your dad swipes through. "Rose. Holy shit, we've gotta go!" your dad says and stands up. Just then you get an idea. Rose may not be your favorite but you're not going to let some insane witch lady take her. Plus if there's any chance at finding your mom, you'll do whatever. And like you said earlier, if anyone's gonna kill Heisenberg you're going to make it your mission for it to be you. Chris blows up the door with the machine and talks to your dad about the plan. You take a deep breath and then let your impulsivity take over. You swiftly run behind your dad and jump up onto the back of the machine and dive into the driver's seat. You press the gas button and go to the elevator before Chris or your dad can stop you. "Sorry guys! I have other plans!" you yell to them. Just like that you're headed upwards. "You can do this y/n, you can do this" you say to yourself. You get to the top and see the lightning outside. You blast open the gate and head out into the rain. You hear a darkened Heisenberg say "well little Winters, I guess it's you and me then. Gotta say, I'm impressed. May the best live". You start firing at the red parts on his arms waiting for your explosive to recharge. Once it does you fire it straight at him but it doesn't seem to effect him. You fire another explosive at his red spots and they blow up a little. He then gets mad and says "play time's over!". You fire all you have at him until he picks up your machine and has you floating in the air with a bunch of other metal things. You feel gravity try to pull you downwards but you keep your grip on the guns and push your heels into the floor of the machine. You shoot an explosive into Heisenberg machines head and he lets go of your machine making you fall to the ground and out of the machine. He's about to end you when suddenly in the distance his factory gets blown up and he gets distracted by it. You heard Chris talking about that when you were planning to steal the machine. "No, no! My metal army! I'm going to murder that boulder-punching asshole, but you're first" he says. You hear your dad, "y/n!". He comes out from the elevator and starts shooting Heisenberg with his grenade launcher. You shot him with your gun but you know it's not going to be powerful enough. You load bullets into him until he emits a bright white light and pulls metal towards him. Both you and your dad start floating in the air, you flail a little. You notice the machine flying around in a circle and you need to act quick. You grab onto it after a few times and make your way into it. He starts sucking you in but you grab onto the explosive lever with both hands and shoot it into him. You fall to the ground as you realize you did it, you beat him. "No, no! This can't be the end for me! I...must...kill her! Uaghhhh! Good...goodbye...little...Winters..." he says and then explodes. You take some deep breaths and then take out the necklace he gave you and hold it. You look at it and whisper "I'll kill her for you, goodbye Heisenberg". You stand up on your aching legs as your dad comes running over to you. "Never do that again! You could've died!" he screams and hugs you tight. "Would you even care?" you ask genuinely. "Of course I would. I'm sorry about how things have been. But y/n/n you're still my little guy. The boy that I used to play catch with in the front yard while mom watched, the boy that used to ask for my help swinging on the swing set. You'll always be my son and I'll always love you" he says. You hug him tight and say "I'll always love you too dad". Just then your dad's phone starts to ring, you see that it's Chris. Chris asks over the phone "Ethan!? I heard explosions. What the hell happened?". "Y/n dealt with Heisenberg. Now we're going to find Miranda and get Rose back" your dad answers. "Not without me. It's too dangerous. Wait there, you hear me? Ethan? Y/n?" Chris says but you both get distracted by the sound of a baby. Your dad points a gun at it and a crow flies out of the blanket. You see your mom standing there. "Mom!?" you call out. "Mia...but!?" your dad says but still has his gun drawn. "Our child...she's so important, isn't she?" fake Mia asks. "She's everything to me" your dad responds. "And mine to me. With Heisenberg gone, you've lost your lead. What are you going to do?" fake Mia asks. "I don't know, but I'm saving Rose" your dad says. You know this is Miranda playing tricks. "You never know, do you? Even when I took Mia's place in your home. Poor Ethan. And you y/n, well, maybe you'll find your place in my family" Miranda says. Your dad then rushed her as she transformed and asked "who are you? Where's Rose!?". Tree limbs grew out of the ground and surrounded you as her black wings covered her and your dad shot at her. "Miranda!" he said as she revealed herself. "Enough. Remember Eveline and her power over the mold? Rose is her successor. No...Rose is Eveline's true, complete form. She will grow to fully control the masses. And I must have her" Miranda says and pops up behind your dad. You go and stand next to your dad. "Fuck you, you crazy bitch!" your dad yells as crows fly in your face. You look back and Miranda is further away from you. "Calm yourself. Rose will be saved. The megamycete catalogs all of us. However, she will be reborn as my daughter" Miranda says as she transforms into your mom. "She's my child! Not yours!" your dad says and pushes her off of him. She disappears and you become on edge. "Where are you? Show yourself!" your dad screams. You then hear Miranda's voice coming from the old lady you saw at the beginning. "Why did Rose come to be? Was it because of her parents? And you are truly a special case. But I've learned all I can from you. Your worth as a lab rat has run out" she says and you become worried. You can't see her and she could pop up at any time. "Miranda, you coward!" you scream as you become angry. "Come out and face me!" your dad screams. You then stare in complete shock and sadness as you see Miranda shove her hand into your dad's chest and rip his beating heart out. "Don't worry, Ethan. Your death will come quick. You will join the megamycete's records" Miranda says as your dad falls to his knees. "Noooooo!" you scream out and fall down onto your knees staring at your dad. "I will make sure to sample your blood for later. Once Dawn breaks the ceremony will be complete, and I will become her true mother. Bound for eternity in blood" she says and then squeezes your dad's heart onto her face. You run over to your dad's side as he falls to the ground and dies. You shake him frantically "dad! Please, no! I..I can't lose you. I can't do this by myself! Please!". You hug his dead body and sob, "please no, please". You sit back on your knees and look up as Miranda stands in front of you and says "I've waited so long. But dreams really can come true. Vessel or not, I can't wait to see my true child again". You cry and say "so that's why you're doing this!? Because you lost your daughter!? That's pathetic! Loss is apart of life, you can't just hurt people to get back what you lost! If things worked that way I'd have my mom back". "Well my dear child, lucky for you I can arrange that" she says. "Wha--?" you begin to question when she uses one of her tree branches to hit you on the side of your head. You pass out next to your dad's dead body. When Chris comes to find you and your dad, he finds your dad's dead body and you gone.
