Chapter 13: Probably Won't Go Swimming For A While

You were now back where the Duke was, your dad bought some ammo and you went on your way. You went to the other big double doors and used the winged key on it. You didn't get more than 10 steps down the hill until you were attacked. A wolf looking monster got on your dad and started nawing on his stomach. You shot at it but then it just jumped on you and slashed at your face. It dragged the both of you down a little ways and you got yourself loose just enough to run into a house. You and your dad shot at it until it ran a little ways away. Your dad took out one of his powerful guns and loaded bullets into the monster until it fell to it's death. Your dad went around and got supplies and he found a grenade launcher too. You walked along until you found a big thing of green goopy bubbles blocking the path onward. Your dad shot them until they fell away. You shot more of that stuff to clear up a ladder. You hopped over the fence and went into the building. You saw the interworking of the windmill and you were fascinated. "This place is so cool" you said and looked around. "Y/n, focus" your dad said. You sighed and followed him down a bunch of stairs into a sort of cave tunnel. You found an old wooden elevator and you pulled the lever for it to take you down. You walked through a wet cave with tracks in the ground. You made your way up some stairs and through some goop. You saw the yellow flask, you ducked and your dad went and grabbed it. You then saw the big fish guy, he threw up and then said "oh, Mother Miranda... If it's for you, I'd do anything!". You and your dad then made eye contact with him, your dad held up the flask and said "I'll just be taking this...". He became frantic and said "wait, wait, wait! Wh-What are you doing with Mother's special child!?". "She's not hers" your dad said. "oh? You have something to say?" Moreau asked. "What do you mean, "Mother's special child"?" your dad asked. "Mother wants her baby back" he answered and came closer. "Don't screw with me!" your dad yelled. "Wait, wait, wait! Please, please! If, if you take it, then the others will laugh at me... B-But if, if I do better than them..." he begged. "What do I care?" your dad asked harshly. "Wait, just a little longer, ple--!" he says but then stops and starts laughing. "What's so funny?" you asked and furrowed your eyebrows. "You're stupid! You talk too much! It's all over, I plugged the way in" he says and points to his green goop. "Just when I was starting to feel a little sorry for you" you said. "This is MY territory! And I won't let you leave!" Moreau said and covered the opening with goop. He tried to stop you but you managed to find a way out of the cave. You made your way onto a dock and found a boat. You didn't have the key though, so your dad went to go find it while you sat and made sure nothing happened to it. You sat on the dock and listened to the water whooshing. You thought it was actually pretty calm out there. You looked down at your bracelet and thought about your mom. You weren't sure what you believed in so you didn't know if she was watching everything or not or looking over you. "I hope you're okay, wherever you are mom, I love you" you says and close your eyes. About 10 minutes later your dad comes back with the boat key. You get in and your dad follows behind you. He starts it up and drives you through what you assume is the reservoir, it was filled with Moreau's goop. Soon you got splashed as some sort of big fish dove in front of you but you didn't get a good look. "What was that!?" you asked. "I..I don't know" your dad answered. He parked the boat at another smaller dock. You got off and went through the cloth like door where you were tackled by someone. "Hey man get off of him!" your dad screamed trying to push him. You then heard a familiar voice, "Y/n, Ethan. I gotta say, I'm surprised you made it this far. It'd be a shame if something happened to you now". "Sure, Chris, why not? You killed my mom! Now do me and finish the job!" you said angrily. "Hey Cap, I'm getting some serious motion readings out here. We should move on" one of Chris's men said. "What kind of readings? What's moving?" Chris asked. "Unknown, but my guess is we've been here too long, and Miranda knows it" he answered. You looked at your dad as he asked, "hey, hey! Did you say Miranda? How are you involved?". "Leave it alone, Ethan. You are out of your depth. What about the sample analysis?" Chris asked. "It's definitely related to the mold" the guy, with an accent, answered. Your eyes widened a bit and you thought instantly back to Louisiana. All of you then heard some sort of monstrous noise. Chris's guy let you go and you stood up and stretched a little, looking out to the noise. "You two stay out of our business" Chris said and walked towards you. "What business? I don't--" your dad began to say but got cut off by Chris. "Watch out!" he screamed and pushed you backwards, out of the line of fire of the monster. Soon you both got knocked into the water and you swirled around trying to see where you were. Your dad grabbed your hand and brought you up to the surface. He helped you onto a platform and you coughed up some water and mucus that was in your throat. You then noticed who you thought was Moreau coming towards you. You fell on your butt and pushed yourself further away from him. "Shit! Stay back!" you yelled, frightened. Your dad grabbed his gun in case. "You... The exit's underwater...you're done!" Moreau said. "We don't have time for this" your dad said and got you to your feet. "It's too late... Miranda is already preparing the ceremony!" Moreau said and then started to throw up green stuff. "Miranda sent you to slow us down? You're pathetic" your dad replies. "Don't be cruel! It's not fair! I should be with her! Not you!" he said while throwing up. "What are you talking about?" you asked him. He then began throwing up a lot and you both moved away from him. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" your dad asked. "I can't hold it in anymore! Oh, God. Oh, Mother, why? Why!?" is the last thing he said before falling into the water. The big fish thing then attacked you. He couldn't get to you though because you were on the wooden platform. You ran up the bridge as he hit himself against it making it shake. You leaped to the ground and your dad helped pull you up. The bridge collapsed and you were safe for now. You jumped down and walked up a hill into a building. You saw a lever and you tried pushing it up to drain the water. "There's no power" you said after it didn't work. You walked through the small building and came out a different door. You saw a windmill and walked towards it. Your dad got into this cart and started to crank it but then it broke off, "ugh, seriously...?". You sighed and followed him into the windmill. It was dark so you didn't realize a hole in the ground which you fell through. You rolled forward when you landed and crashed into the wall. "Ughhh what the fuck!" you screamed. Your dad jumped down after you and just walked outside. "Oh yup yup, thanks for the help!" you say sarcastically and slowly get up. You follow him through a path of a bunch of rusted old roofs and house parts. Your dad shoots a board to lower a bridge and when you go to walk over it the big fish monster comes back and jumps over it. You both run to the next roof and it jumps up into the air again. "Is it a fucking Olympic swimmer?!" you scream. Your dad shot down another bridge and you quickly crossed it. You walked up some stairs and then helped your dad push a heavy plank into the water, it floated away and you realized you needed another one. You see that there's a puzzle your dad has to figure out so you think it's best if you let him do it alone. When your dad get the other plank down Moreau jumps over them. "Fuck!" you yell and then quickly jump onto the plank and run across it. You run up the stairs after your dad and he shoots some green goop out of your pathway. You run through a rusted old ship and up a ladder as Moreau tries to get to you but can't. Your dad pulls a lever that lifts a gross old goopy ship. "Caught myself a big one" your dad said jokingly. You ran into the middle room and Moreau made goop appear and your dad shot it. "We need to get outta here!" your dad said. You jumped up onto a path that lead you to one of the windmills. Your dad shot the ladder down and then you climbed it. Your dad found another crank thing and started using it and you realized the wing on the side came to you and you could climb it. You climbed it and saw a zipline. Your dad had you get on his back and he grabbed onto the hook. Moreau tried his hardest to get to you but he just barely missed you both as he fell back into the water. "That was too fucking close" you said when you dropped to the other windmill. You took a couple deep breaths as your dad used the new crank to crank the windmill. You then saw a burst of electricity. "Ok!" your dad said with a little enthusiasm. You ran back into the little shack you came from earlier with the panel. Your dad went over to said panel and figured out what buttons to turn to what color and pulled the lever which let the water drain out. When you walk out of the shack you see gross as Moreau on the land saying "my precious water! No!", he then climbs up a hill and disappears from your sight. You go to where the water previously was. You see a bunch of gross green, muddy and mossy stuff covering the ground. It's filled with houses that are broken through and damp. You make your way through the area until Moreau comes out of nowhere and says "I'll make you proud, Mother. Watch me!". He then started throwing up and you dove behind a barrel for cover. You then noticed a flammable sign on the barrel. One he stopped puking you waited till he got close enough and shot the barrel which exploded on Moreau. "Good idea y/n" your dad says. Your dad shoots him with his grenade launcher and you keep leading him to the explosive barrels and shooting them. You get him to his final faze and then shoot one last barrel that defeats him. "Damn you! H-help me! Mother! Maaaaaaaaaaaa--!" Moreau says one last time as he explodes into a disgusting mess. "In death as he was in life. Disgusting" your dad says. "amen" you say and gag at the disgusting smell. You make your way up to the exit and it looks like a caved railroad. It takes you to a door that needs another set of wings for the winged key and then the room where you first found Moreau in, talking to himself. Your dad found the pair of wings and put it on the other part of the key. The T.V then turns on and you both look to it, you hear Heisenberg's voice say "you're better off than I thought". "Who's that?" your dad asks. Heisenberg answers "oh come on, we just me a while back! Not that it really matters...". "You're the last asshole in my way, aren't you?" your dad asks. "You've got fight. I'll give you that Ethan. And so does your boy there too. But what's the plan when you have all four flasks?" Heisenberg asks. "What're you trying to get at?" you question. "I could lend you a hand" he answers. "Trying to get on my good side? your dad says. "Don't get cocky. I'd kill you if you weren't worth the trouble... There's a stronghold not too far outside the village. Go there and get my flask. Do that, and you pass. First, head back to the graveyard" he explains. The T.v then goes back to static. "Self-centered prick" your dad mutters. You sigh and say "maybe he can help us". "Don't get too trusting" your dad says. You just shrug and follow him as he unlocks the six winged door. The door brought you back to the elevator that first brought you down there, you pulled the lever and you were brought back up. "I can't be the only one who's like really tired, right?" you ask and breath heavily, a little winded. Your dad laughs a little and says "no I'm tired too, but we have to do this". You walk back up all of those stairs and then out of the windmill. Your dad uses the crank to open the previously locked door. You explore a little and your dad finds a really cool looking gun called the Wolfsbane. Your dad used his grande launcher on a wolf that showed up to kill it. You then made your journey back to where the Duke was. You took a well needed rest and blew some warm air into your cold hands. Only one more to go.
