In the research sector....

Fists clenched, eyes narrowed in full concentration and jaw tightened, Venus stood stiffly in front of a row of monitors all buzzing silently with recordings from the night before. There, standing right in front of the camera was a gore looking human with its flesh slumping against its bones, eyes so big that they might just pop out any second and jaw hung loosely and widely. It was skinny but had massive bones which made it look muscular. Not human for sure. Not really a zombie either, at least not the one Venus knew and was familiar with. No, this is definitely something new and unpleasant, something haunting and barbaric. Something she needed Jimin to see yet here she was, staring at it as if she was trying intimidate it through the screen.

In all honesty, Venus was the one who was getting uneasy looking at the footage. The tape was collect from last night's scout where hidden cameras were buried in the thick trunks of trees and this made it more skin crawling to realize that this creature was staring right at one of the cameras as if it knew it was there, as if it had some super sense or extreme night vision. Whatever it was, Venus knew it was much more than just a zombie. It was a, "they evolved...", someone spoke her thoughts and startled her.

Venus jumped at the voice behind her. No one should be in the control room by this hour. Everyone should be returning home now that Jimin had implied a new curfew. Even Venus should be heading home now but she had sneaked into the control room of her lab to watch the recording again. She hadn't told anyone about it and kept the tape to herself, not even her team knew of this. "Excuse me?", she whispered, hoping no one else other than this tall handsome man beside her saw the tape. The man pointed at the screen and motioned his finger in circle around the sickening looking zombie, "they evolved. When humans started rebuilding and defending themselves, the undead slowly loses they main course. With their bottomless hunger still unsatisfied, they began to evolve. Stronger, faster and much much more aggressive".

The man spoke smoothly as if he had been acquainted with this information since forever which was impossible since this discovery was only known to Venus and she was working alone on this all along. He took a step closer to the monitor while she took one to the side, still unsure if she should allow him access to such confidential information but something told her to let him evaluate it, maybe he saw something she didn't. He stared at the screen for awhile turning to her with a kind grin, "name's Jin, by the way. My apologies for snooping but I couldn't help myself when I caught a glimpse of the footage when Captain Jeon have sent me to get you".

Then it clicked Venus, "As in Seok Jin? Jungkook's apparent best friend other than Jimin?", strangely it brought a faint smile to her face at the sound of the familiar name. She stretched a hand out for a handshake, "I'm Venus Park-", "Head Researcher of North Venera, Formal-Military Psychologist, Author of the Lifeless War that was based on your adventure with your husband during the first phase of the virus outbreak. I know my onions", Jin winked with a proud and bright smile. Yeah, he definitely knew his onions alright. Venus let out a stunned chuckle and shook her head, "Jungkook told us quite a lot about you, mainly the jokes he found annoying but his smile said otherwise". Jin shrugged, knowing well his ridiculous could indeed break glaciers.

Averting her attention back to the footage which was showing the creature howling or screaming, the audio was to buzzy to determine the noise that it made, Venus muttered, "what do you mean evolved? Our scouts have been reporting the decrease in the undead wondering around so I assumed they must've died out or something but-", "but no bodies was found, right? That's because they didn't die. Selective survival. They might not breed but they evolve to adapt to their surroundings just like our body temperature regulating according to our environment".

A dreadful silence took over before Jin continued with a deeper and a hint of panic, "and by the looks of it, they evolved to be much much hungrier", he gulped and shakily pointed to the silhouette behind the creature. There, laying motionlessly behind a tree, was a pile of freshly killed humans but none of them had their bodies intact. There were legs and arms shattered around the pile, eye balls rolling unsteady as the wind blew and the crimson pool of blood under the bodies. The killing method was blinding obvious, it was painted all over the pile of food. They were torn apart, gutted from inside out and left to be preserved like canned food.
