I looked over at the clock. Three hours late... Sun's concern showed, as I was the only one left who hadn't been collected. He walked over to me and took my hand.

"Are you alright Sunshine?" His gentle voice soothed my swirling mind, and his warm presence calmed my nerves. I grabbed onto his legs and didn't let go for at least five whole minutes.
"There there, Y/N. I'm sure they'll be here soon." I had little faith in his words, but I tried to believe him.
"Will... will they ever come back?" I whispered to him. He looked down at me with immense kindness, and held me in his arms.
"I know they will! Who would ever leave you? There's no one else like you in the world, and you should never forget how important you are!"
I smiled, a new found confidence building up inside me.

"Well, I'll see you in the morning Sunshine. Sweet dreams..." he smiled sadly at me and his hand inched towards the light switch. I was about to ask what he meant when the switch clicked off and everything went dark.

But not for long. Two piercing red eyes shone from the darkness. I couldn't help but scream. I put my hands over my mouth as fear flooded through my mind. Where had Sun gone?
"P...please don't hurt me...." I whispered, my voice tense and squeaky.

A voice called out from the darkness. "Y/N. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm here to get you to sleep; it's way past your bedtime!"
The figure stepped into my view. He looked like Sun... but not. Sun's smile could brighten anyones day. This smile could give you nightmares for weeks.

I was hesitant, but decided to follow him over to the nap time corner.
"Make yourself at home little one. Make sure you're comfy!"
After I had got settled into some fluffy blankets and cushions, I gained the confidence to ask this stranger something.
"If... if you don't mind me asking," I began, carefully choosing my words. "Who are you?"
He thought for a moment and moved closer to me, making me feel the same warmth that Sun did.
"My name is Moon. I look after the children at night. No one ever sees me because they should all be asleep at night. But this is a... special occasion, we'll call it." He paused before continuing. "You see, Sun and I, we're one and the same. When the lights go off, I come out. But everyone's always scared of me. I just want everybody to be happy and healthy- oh stop it I'm not sweet." I was quite confused and decided to ignore it.
"Anyway, you look upset. I know that your parents left you here tonight. But I hate to say this, but Sun's right. There really is no one like you in the world, and just because of one mishap doesn't mean that you're any less important. I'm not the type to believe in other people, but I believe in you, kid."
"Thank you..." I pulled Moon into a hug. I realised that he had probably never received physical affection before, which made me hug him even tighter.
When I let go, he looked as if he might cry (if animatronics could do that), and I felt overjoyed to have made him happy.
"Goodnight Moon..." I yawned snuggling up in the blankets.
"Nighty Night, Y/N. Get some rest."

"Good morning Sunshine! Did you sleep well?" The familiar voice of Sun woke me up, and I couldn't help but run over to him and give him the biggest hug imaginable.
"Was Moon okay?" He asked nervously, shifting from one foot to another.
"Yeah, actually. He was nice."
"I don't think he's ever been called 'nice' before. See? I told you that you're sweet!" I laughed and hugged Sun once again.

"WHERE ARE THEY?!" A woman's voice cried from the crowd that had formed a few minutes ago. The time was now 8:00 in the morning. "WHERE IS Y/N?!"
My whole face lit up. My parents were here!
"See?" Sun cheered. "I told you they'd come!"
"Thank you Sun. Thank you Moon. I'm really glad you've been with me through this. But I have to go home now..."
"We'll see you soon Y/N! Have faith in yourself! Have a safe journey home!" I waved back at him and ran over to my parents.

Bonus (because I just thought of this):

"Wow, I can't believe you were so nice to them! And they hugged you!" Sun cheered at Moon internally.
"Yeah, well I don't care." Moon retorted from the depths of their mind, obviously caring.
"Anyway, they're coming back tomorrow-"
"CAN I SEE THEM PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU SUN-"
Sun snickered.
"What happened to not caring?"
"Well maybe I'm just... just... ugh I have no excuse, ya got me, whoopy doo!"
"Oh stop it drama queen." Sun snickered.

The argument was interrupted by a child eating glitter glue.
