The day had started off normal, me sliding into the Daycare without a single care. Sun skipped over to greet me as per usual, and I decided that I was going to relax today. So, I picked up a book from the small bookshelf (which most people didn't know about, and was hiding in between the play structure and the supply cupboard) and began to read.

I didn't know how much time had passed; I didn't really care. Instead, I focused on the words written on the page, creating vivid images in my mind.

At one point, Sun came over to check on me. It was something he did regularly, so I didn't mind.
"Watcha got there Y/N?" He grinned, leaning over to examine the page. I opened my mouth to answer, but before I could do so, the background hum of power quickly faded out, and we were all plunged into darkness.
The only thing I could see was Moon's glowing eyes, a beacon in the abyss of the Daycare. I had no choice but to put my book down and walk over to the faint red glow.

We all seemed to have had the same idea as the majority of us had already gathered around Moon. Instead of being calm and collected, his expression was full of anxiety. I didn't know why this was, exactly, but I felt really bad for him. I mean, to be put on the spot like that, I'd be nervous too!
"H-hey everyone...?" Moon stuttered after a moment. A hush spread across his little crowd. This seemed to unnerve him even more.
"Is everyone here? I think we need to check. Y/N?" He asked, seeking familiarity in this sea of strangers. Our eyes met, and for a tiny millisecond, I could see his face mould into an expression of relief.
"...Hm?" I asked quietly, feeling everyone's eyes staring at me. Moon hesitated a little before continuing.
"I need you and one other person to go and find a security guard. And take this," I walked over to him as he held something in his hand. A flashlight gleamed in the soft glow of his eyes, and I gratefully took it.
"I'm going to need to look after everyone else. Take someone with you, it could be dangerous. And remember... do NOT leave the Daycare. Do you understand?"
I knew this was serious. As much as he didn't want to admit it, we all knew he only wanted to keep us all safe. So I nodded, and looked to my left, and saw the same person with the little brother, Rex, who ate everything in his path. It didn't seem like Rex was here today, so she was stood alone, noticeably shaking.
I gently tapped her arm, and she jumped, a startled expression crossing her face.
"Do you want to come with me?"
She waited a while to respond.
"...alright. But as long as I get to hold the flashlight."
I nodded, and with that, we were ready to go.

Just before we set off into the darkness, Moon had to check on his clipboard that everyone was here. After that, him and the others brain stormed games to play while they waited.
"Stay safe you two. And remember, if you get into any sort of trouble, come back here."
"We will!" We shouted as we began our journey across the pitch black Daycare.

"So... how's Rex?" I asked awkwardly, finding it difficult to start conversation with her. She stayed silent, and for a moment, I thought I had said the complete wrong thing. As my anxiety reached its peak, however, she sighed.
"He's still madly in love with the taste of glue, but other than that, he's okay."
I felt relief flood through me. "I'm really glad he's alright. How are you doing?"
Once again, she paused. She seemed to be really taking her time with finding the right answer.
"...I'm alright, I guess. Not got much going on. My parents definitely prefer him over me, so I don't like being there.
"I'm sorry to hear that... I know with my parents, they're always working. That's why I spend most of my time here."
"I guess parents are just complicated..."
We continued walking in silence, but it was not awkward like before.

"I... I never got your name..." she squeaked after a few minutes. I was confused. Why hadn't we said before, seeing as we'd seen each other multiple times?
"Oh, well, it's Y/N. What's yours?"
She looked taken aback. She probably wasn't expecting me to ask her.
"It's... it's Laura."
"That's a nice name... Laura... it's nice to finally be introduced, Laura!" I grinned, forgetting that the room was pitch black and she most likely couldn't even see me.
"Thanks, it's nice to properly meet you, Y/N!"
