SISTER MAGGIE ALWAYS CALLED JOSIE A ROMANTIC.

She used to hold her steady by the shoulders, and warn her, "that heart will be the death of you, Josette."

But Josie thought she could counter this — Josie Alistar thought that if she combined her emotions with her intelligence, she could put off her demise as far as possible.

Josie was smart enough to know that Matt needed something stable. So she waited until she was done with college, and got hired. She waited until he was at a good place in Law school. She waited and she waited and she thought that by some way of fate or faith, he'd wait for her.

Turns out, Sister Maggie was right. Because right now, in apartment 212B, no amount of intelligence could have overridden the fact Josie feels like she's dying.

      "He's what?"

Foggy's eyebrows furrowed. His worry lines are creasing, and he's staring at Josie like she's confused him.

"With Elektra? His girlfriend?" he repeats, unnecessarily, because the words are bolted in Josie's brain.

Her stomach is plummeting like 17 floors right now. Her heart is constricting on herself.

      She chokes out, "Girlfriend?"

"Joey," Foggy calls, cautiously. "How long has it been since you talked to Matt?"

This was so stupid. Josie... she knew this might not work, she knew she should have jumped in instead of waiting, she... she's furious. She's heartbroken.

Depths of despair or not, Foggy looks worried.

Josie rubs her temple. "Really talked to him? Two weeks, I think."

Foggy tries to hide his grimace, and immediately, Josie knows that it wasn't a mistake Matt never mentioned.

Foggy tilts his head a little, his lips pressing into a concerned line. "He and Elektra have been together for like, a month. He didn't mention it?"
