2005:

Natasha slowly enters her cell. Looking to the corner to find Mackenzie sitting on the bed playing with the paper snowflakes they made the previous night.

Natasha smiles and Mackenzie looks up to find her mother. "Hi baby."

She quickly scrambled to her feet jumping into her mothers arms. Natasha chuckles and holds Mackenzie tightly and says "I see you missed me."

"So much! Mama I missed you so much!"

She smiles and peckers her daughters face with kisses. "I'm so glad you didn't start coloring those without me."

Mackenzie nods and says "I want to make angel ones! Like the ones you said your sissy makes." Natasha nods and says "Well, I guess since you were so good while I was gone I can show you."

Natasha sits on the bed and winces as she sits. Mackenzie pouts and clings tighter to her mother.

She kisses her moms cheek and Natasha says "What was that for?"

"Mama you're hurt."

"And you're making me feel better already."

Mackenzie's love language is physical and words. Actions too. Basically she's the most loving person you can meet, but it's not odd to see in a 3 year old, soon to be 4.

Natasha readjusts Kenzie and says "So, what story do you want to hear tonight?"

"... Papa's first Christmas he remembers."

Natasha's face drops and she says "We won't be seeing your papa for Christmas. I'm so sorry, I know that's all you wanted for Christmas but he-"

"He doesn't want to see me." She pouts

Natasha shakes her head and says "No. No. Of course not. He's just not in Russia, moose. He's in America and when he gets back and you get to see him, he can tell you all about it. The big bridges. The cows and farms. Just like the ones we sing about in the nursery rhymes."

Mackenzie has never been outside of these 4 walls. Her life has been confined to the red room walls. Hydra walls.

She barely even knows what the sun is. Other than the fact that her mother places her in the beam of light that shines through the high window in the room for as long as it'll remain in their room.

Natasha has lifted Mackenzie above her shoulders to peer out the glass window that doesn't open to see the surroundings on some occasions

Mackenzie was amazed. Completely amazed
