If You Are Happy

There's a hole in my heart

in the shape of you.

Is it only me

or does it pain you too?

Does it catch your eye,

does my smile misconstrue?

Does it flash in my eyes

when I'm looking at you?

But how can I blame you,

a human in truth,

for what is not yours to

relieve or subdue?

Am I such a tyrant,

so cruel and untrue,

to hate you for all that

which you never knew?

No! How revolting!

Indeed I refuse,

to hurt you with censure

unfair and undue.

And so I shall bear this,

and nor will I rue,

for if you are happy,

then I'm happy, too.
