Taylor's POV

As Nicolas and I head towards the glass doors, my heart beats loudly in my chest.

I inhale a deep breath to prepare myself to walk into this beautiful event, knowing deep down within me that I don't belong here.

"You ready Thomas?" Nicolas asks, breaking me out of my thoughts. I look up at him and smile.

"Yeah, I think so," I smile.

We both take our masks out and put them on our face, the black elastic band tightening around our heads.

This masquerade gala was going to be hella fun. I was sure of it.

Even if we were here for business purposes.

When our look is complete Nicolas offers me his hand and I gladly accept it, holding hands with him as an older lady appears in front of us and opens the glass door, a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Nicolas! Is that you?" A look of recognition flashes over her face. "Oh my gosh! It is you honey! It's so nice to see you again!" She beams, giving him a quick hug. "And who is this beauty?" She asks.

"This is—" Nicolas starts, but I cut him off.

"Taylor. Nice to meet you," I answer before he can. She smiles at me and takes me by surprise when she embraces me into a tight hug as well.

I hesitated a little before hugging her back,
Nicolas eyeing me all the while. When she
pulled away, there was a wide smile on her
face.

She smelled like flowers and probably the most expensive perfume out there.

"Any friend of Nicolas's is a friend of mine. Welcome sweetie. You look beautiful," she says, stepping to the side for me and Nicolas to get inside the building.

He grabs my hand again and intertwines our fingers as we slowly walk into the beautiful gala.

My lips part as I look around, a huge chandelier with diamonds covering it hanging in the middle of the room, shining lights all around the slightly dimmed room.

Everyone is chatting with each other and loud music is playing over the speakers.

"Whoa," I say, my lips parted in shock as I look around at all the people dressed up with their partners. Everyone's mainly wearing black, while quite a few people are wearing white, but it all blends in beautifully.

There's white interior everywhere with a splash of light pink. Food is set up and there is also a bar in the corner.

"Do you think Ivan's here yet?" I ask Nicolas. He shakes his head and turns to me, his gaze intimidating and frightening.

"No, we got news that only he's coming and his brother isn't in town this weekend. Ivan is supposed to arrive around 9:45 p.m., so we have to start looking for him around that time,"  he explains.

I looked around once again, at the strange
faces around me. The only person I knew here
was Nicolas and that made me uncomfortable. I wrapped my arms around myself.

"I've got some things to do," he looked at me again. "You can stay down here. Or you can explore the place if you want. It doesn't really matter," I couldn't believe he was saying that, but I nodded anyway.

"You don't have to tell me twice," I let go of his hand.

"Just don't indulge in conversations with
anyone," he pointed that out before disappearing into the crowd, his black shirt visible to me for few seconds before it disappeared too.
