You took another sip out of your champagne glass as you stood near the wall, observing the crowds of sophisticated people mingling with each other.

The music was loud, but the genre was very classy, very befitting for the sort of party that you were currently in attendance for.

A large, extravagant mansion was the venue in which the current party was unfolding at, and as divine as everything looked and sounded - you felt as though it was far from that.

For you, at least.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying the evening - everyone but you.

Your displeasure would have been considered ironic, considering that you were in a room filled with celebrities and renown names - most of which were musicians. It would have been anyone's dream to have been in the middle of that sort of scene - but you weren't anyone.

No matter how hard you tried, you couldn't bring yourself to enjoy the party - and you'd been trying for the past two hours.

Given the manner in which you stood at the end of the room, all alone, one might have assumed that you had attended the event on your own - but that would have been an inaccurate assumption.

You had arrived at the party with someone - your boyfriend of two years, Christian.

But with the way he had left you to your own devices, it didn't look like you were even together.

Funnily enough, Christian was the one who brought you to the party in the first place, because you hadn't had any interest in it initially.

Perhaps it would have been wise to note that Christian was a fairly successful businessman in the entertainment industry, someone that worked behind the scenes but raked in quite the pay-cheque.

It was this career path of his that put the two of you in social circles that the ordinary person wouldn't have even had the chance to catch a fleeting glimpse of - but you would have preferred to have never become acquainted with those circles.

What many people assumed was glamorous, you knew to be sick and snobbish.

Every single person had some sort of money, power, or fame - and some even had all three securely under their belt.

And Christian was probably the worst out of all of them, especially when it came to the way he treated you. He'd never been violent or physically abusive, but his sheer lack of empathy had never ceased to amaze you - and not in a good way.

When you had first met him, he'd presented the image of the perfect man - kind, intelligent and faithful; but after several months, you'd realized that he was nothing of that sort.

He had a way with words, but he was more arrogant than he was intelligent - and why you hadn't left him yet, you didn't know.

Perhaps there was some foolish part of you that believed you could fix whatever had fallen apart, that maybe your time spent with him wouldn't have to go to waste.

But you were fooling yourself, and even you knew that.

Nevertheless, you were where you were, and all you could do was find a way to tolerate the energy in the room - and if it got too much, you planned to leave.
