PART ONE
I get out of bed and get some cereal. I turn on Looney Toons and say bye to my dad as he leaves for work.
Midway through the show an important news update pops on. The woman is talking about the illness that had been spreading, and how it has gotten extreamly worse over the past few days. She says anyone who's sick should stay home, away from the healthy.
When my friend Olivia knocks on my door, I realize I'm going to be late. I rush to get ready and out the door.

"Hey Lukas!" She calls to me. "Hey Olivia." I respond as we begin to walk. "Did you see the news today? Its weird man. People going crazy and biting each other."
"Yeah. The doctor on the news said its mainly spread through saliva and bites."
Several times throughout our walk, police cars and ambulances pass by. Citizen cars zoom past the other way. "What if this is the start of the zombie apocalypse?"
"Don't be silly, Olivia. Its probably just another swine flu or something. You need to stop watching those zombie shows."
She laughs and playfully shoves me. We cross the street and enter the school, just after the bell. We're both 14 in Mr. Ryan's grade 8 class. "Late as usual." Mr. Ryan states as we enter the classroom. "Take your seats."
***
"-the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell," Mr. Ryan continues, as we take notes.
Bang.
A gunshot.
Everyone hushes, class stops, the room still. Soon after, rapid gunfire is heard in the distance. Panic spreads in the classroom.
"What's going on?" Mark, a kid in our class, panics. "I-I don't know." Mr. Ryan states.
"Do not be alarmed, staff and students," the principal says over the P.A. "The authorities have the situation under control. However, school will not continue today, and will resume in a few days. The authorities will notify us when we can release you. Until then, sit tight."
After several minutes, Mark gets reckless and looks out the window. His face shows that he instantly regretted it. He shakily points to something through the glass. We all race over to see what's happening.
A horrific event was unveiling outside. A man, no younger than fifty, lay on the sidewalk, gasping for air. The reason? Another person, this one grey-skinned, gashes dressing his body, was ripping open the man's stomach, eating the man's stomach. The dying man's eyes darted back and forth, finally resting them in our direction.
And we couldn't do anything but watch.
