"Lukas!" I can hear voices screaming, but they all sound like they're at the other end of a tunnel.

Bang.

Another gunshot. Probably one of the guards, or maybe Barkley, putting Doug down. The edges of my sightlines turn dark, and I begin to see spots. Barkley and Delilah hover over me.

"Can you hear me!" I know he's shouting, but it is slient and echoes. "We need to .... him t.. the conta... Widget." I can barely hear them now, but I know where they're taking me.

"OK, I'm gonna ne... Three guar.... Ready? One... Tw.... Three!" A sudden jerk and pain explodes in my right shoulder as they pick me up. Oh yeah, that's right. It feels like someone just shoved my right arm in a wood chipper that's been set on fire.

The ceiling above me begins to move and they begin to hurry forward, towards the containment widget. I turn my head so I can see in front of me.

A woman stands at the door to the containment widget. She opens it to let us in, but a zombified charlie stumbles out and implants his teeth into the woman's arm. She screams loud enough that even I feel like plugging my ears.

One of the guards carrying me seems to forget that he's doing so, pulls out his gun and shoots Charlie in the head, dropping me in the process. My left heel hits the ground and another burst of pain explodes in my shoulder.

"Shawn! So....one else ....ld've delt with... Charlie! Now pi.... up his leg!" Yeah, get it together shawn.

"Someone help jane ont.. a gur...., cut that ...rm off ASAP...." That's the last thing I remember before the pain takes over, and I slip into darkness.

I wake to a white celing. Wires and tubes are attached to my arms, and the pain in my shoulder has gone down significantly.

"Hey little man, glad to see your awake." I turn my head to the voice and see a woman laying on the gurney next to me. "I'm Jane." She reaches to shake my hand, but seems to forget that her left arm now ends in a stump. she quickly brings it back to her side. "I'm sorry for what happened." I say.

"Well, I'd rather have a nub then be dead. What can I say, I'm an optimist."

She pushes herself up with her one good arm and rips out all the wires. "Ain't no wires gonna hold me down. I'm a doctor myself, and those other patients are gonna need help." her fiery red hair whips to her other shoulder as she turns sharply and hops off the gurney.

"What are you, crazy? You just had your arm cut off, and your already trying to help people?" I say, puzzled.

"Yes." She responds as she replaces the bloody bandages wrapped around her stump.

"Yes? Yes what?" I'm so confused.
She stops and turns to me, looking dead in my eyes. "Yes. I'm crazy." She returns to wrapping, mumbling under her breath. "These dumb asses don't even know how to wrap a severed limb. I'm working with idiots, aren't I."

"Your one crazy redhead, jane." Scout walks in and rests his hand on a nearby wall. "Sit back down."

"I may be crazy but I'm not an idiot. What are you even doing here, Monty? Oh, sorry, scout." She says with a smile. These two obviously know each other well.

"I just came to check up on Lukas. I know you're alright, but I barely know Lukas." He pulls a small wooden chair from the wall and brings it next to me and plops down.
"So, how's the arm?"

"Doesn't feel like its on fire anymore, so I guess that's a plus." I try to sit up, but Scout gently pushes me back down. "Easy there. Don't go following Jane." He leans in and whispers, "I don't know if you know this, but she's pretty crazy."

"I heard that, asshole!" Jane yells from across the room. Scout smiles and leans back on his chair. "I thought I told you sit back down, you blinkered."

"Don't get your panties in a twist." Jane says, mocking Scout's British accent. "Im just gonna examine Lukas."

"I'm not dead, ya know." I say.

She walks over to me and checks one of the monitors. "Hey, quick question," I begin. "How is there power here?"

We have a few solar panels on the roof. Not enough to power the entire building, so we only use power in the containment widget." Jane taps a button on the monitor. "Looks like were gonna have to knock you out for a little. You need some minor surgery."

Scout looks at something on the table to the left of me that I never even noticed before. Its the bullet.

"I'll go throw that out for you." Scout stands and approaches, but I stop him. "No."

"No? Why?" He says. Jane injects me with a needle.

"Because I want to keep it. I want to remember."
Jane chuckles. "Remember what, being shot?" I can feel myself slipping into unconsciousness.

"No. I want to remember, that I survived."

"Will do. Now, its time for you to rest." Scout's voice is distant and echoed.

I look at the bloody bullet before I slip into darkness once more.
