Once Wesker returned to his office, Chris went back onto the website. This time, there was an article about Umbrella. "Huh...surprising." Good thing that he knew coding or else he wouldn't have found this. Hopefully it would be useful. How long did he have until the others would show up? Looking up at the clock that hung on the wall, he had approximately a hour left. That was plenty of time, or so he thought. From time to time, Wesker would leave his office. Of course during these times, Chris would hurry and do his paperwork before going back to his research. This went on for another 20 minutes or so. "Getting distracted again?" Chris jumped slightly, looking up from the computer. There stood his captain. He must've not heard him leave his office this time. "Uh y-yeah. I'm sorry, sir." Chris went back to his paperwork. Though he would briefly stop when he heard footsteps approaching his desk. A feeling of panic arose in him as the footsteps moved behind him, eyes behind the shades looking over the screen. "What's this?" The man asked, as if he didn't already know. Chris gulped as he peered over his shoulder, giving Wesker a slight smile. "This is the article that I was looking at earlier. It's about some cooperation that creates these bio weapons. Crazy right? Apparently the name of it is 'Umbrella Cooperation'. What a name to call it. Sounds like some type of fashion company." Wesker let out what seemed to be a chuckle. A real chuckle. Creepy. "Never knew that you were into this kind of research." "Um not really research. I just kind of came across it and it peaked my interest." Chris quickly corrected to get rid of any suspicion. The other male hummed softly, thankfully taking the excuse. "What do you think about it?" Don't be suspicious. "Eh...it kinda seems fake. Cool but fake. If it ever appeared on the news then I would have a different opinion on it. You know, since the news never lies. (~reference~ can you guess it? >:D)" "You'd be surprised, Redfield." Chris just nodded in response as he watched the male lean onto the corner of his desk. "How are you feeling?" "Ah alright. Erm-better?" "Good." Wesker moved away from his desk, walking back to his office. "Thank you again for last night, Captain. Sorry for falling asleep on you. It must've been a pain." "Not at all. You needed the rest. Your health is important. It's good that you got the amount of sleep that you got. Your body must've needed it. You were in a deep slumber. You didn't move a muscle when I had to carry you. Not to mention the movement in the morning. Nothing seemed to be enough to wake you up." His words replayed in Chris's mind. It was obvious that Wesker was trying to imply something. And he had only just realized it. "Wait, did you-" His sentence was interrupted by a door opening. It was Barry. "I'll speak with you later about this. Try not to get distracted again, Christopher." Wesker returned to his office. Sighing softly, Chris shut down his computer. It wasn't before the others arrived. For most of the day, Chris was quiet. No jokes, no pranks or tricks. Probably because this was what he was use to now. "Chris? Are you feeling better today?" Jill asked, feeling a bit worried for him. "Mhm, I'm fine." Chris replied quickly, too focused on the work in front of him. It was pretty normal for Jill to be worried. She was always looking after him, along with Barry. After a bit of silence, Chris looked up from his work, only to see his teammates looking at him out of concern. "Guys, really, I'm fine. I feel better than yesterday. Just be glad that I'm not aiming a gun at you." He joked, receiving a few laughs. "Ok. If you need anything, then let us know." Brad stated. Chris smiled warmly. "Thanks." The wholesome moment was sadly ruined when a loud gunshot rang through the room. Well, it came from outside, but it was right next to the building. Everyone, including Chris, shot up from their seats. Not a second later, Wesker came out of his office. "Gear and weapons." The order immediately sent them into action. Around the building was a pretty open area, except for the back. The back was a bit of an enclosed area, which seemed more dangerous. Wesker looked at Chris before gesturing for him to go a different direction. With no questions asked, the brunette followed the order. Though the scenario did remind him of the mansion. The gunshot, him investigating the noise. What was next? Wesker and Jill disappearing? Was this another way of Wesker betraying them? This only made Chris want to turn around and go back to the others, afraid for their safety. But that choice was qickly crossed out when he heard another gunshot. He immediately aimed his gun in the direction it came from, of course in the back. Great. Chris proceeded with caution, moving forward slowly. Turning the corner, he saw two bodies laying on the ground. Both were police officers. By the looks of it, they were still breathing. He hurried over to their sides, Taking out whatever he could to stop the bleeding. He wrapped the wounds tightly, stopping the bleeding. It was the best that he could do for now. But now he had to find out who the culprit was. As if on que, he heard heavy breathing off to the side. Slowly getting up, he carefully approached the area where it was coming from. The heavy breathing got louder as he got closer. Eventually the breathing stopped, almost as if the person was holding their breath, avoiding being caught. Raising his gun, he quickly turned the corner. No one was there. No blood, so it couldn't have been an injured person. A confused expression formed on Chris's face. Where could they have gone? Suddenly, a hand clasped against his mouth, silencing his surprised gasp. At the same time, something hard was pressed against his side. "Don't move a fucking muscle. Just do what I say and I won't shoot. Understood?" The voice was deep. A male, for sure. But who was it? The man removed his hand from Chris's mouth to let him respond. "What an introduction. Chris Redfield-" "Don't care. Take me inside the building. Where your weapons are." "Are you seriously trying to rob a police station? Now if I was a robber, I'd-" Smack! The handle on the gun was whipped against his head before being aimed at his side again. "Are you trying to get fucking shot?! I'm running out of patience here. Take me inside or else this bullet will make a fine home in your lungs. Got it? I won't hesitate bitch. (But Rebecca it's not what you think XD)" With silence as a reply, the man smirked in victory. "Good..." Now back to Wesker. The search seemed to be useless. They weren't getting anything. Barry and Jill were worried. "Captain, are you sure that sending Chris alone was a good idea? Especially after what happened after yesterday?" Jill asked. "Yes. I trust Chris with this. Have you found anything?" "No, sir. Nothing here." Wesker hummed softly. The man wouldn't admit it out loud but he was worried for the other. Like actually worried. The younger male grew on him. He guessed that the others felt the same considering their worried expressions. The blonde could practically see Barry and Jill about to 'lose it'. "Jill, Barry, Richard, Rebecca, with me. The rest of you, stay put and keep an eye out. Report anything you find." After receiving a few "Yes, sir", Wesker lead the four in the direction that he sent Chris. That's when they heard the second gunshot. They immediately raised their guns as they headed in the direction of the gunshot. They soon came across the two injured police officers. Wesker looked at Rebecca then gestured for her to go to them. He then looked at the other three, telling them to stay close. As they walked ahead, they soon found the spot that Chris was first attacked. His gun laid on the ground, which Jill grabbed it. "This is Chris's gun. Were we too late?" She asked. "Keep your hopes up, Valentine. Keep looking." Wesker coldly replied. He didn't look too happy. Walking ahead, distant whispers were soon heard. "Stop bullshitting me and open the damn door." "I already told you that I don't have the key. I tried to tell you that but-" Smack! "Lie again and it'll be a bullet instead." As they got closer he two soon came into view. "Just get me inside, dumbass." "I can't. What part of that do you not understand, dumbass?" The man whipped the gun up, pressing the barrel hard against Chris's skull and his free hand gripped his neck, tilting him back and forcing the male to look at him. "Don't fucking talk to me like that, you prick. Understood?" "Yes." The man lowered the gun to Chris's side again, moving the hand that gripped Chris's neck to his waist. He got uncomfortably close to his ear, whispering another threat. He could feel the man breathing down his neck, causing him to shiver. The man tried to think of something, someway to get inside. In the distance, the four watched. Wesker was not liking how the man had his hands on Chris. Not to mention, the gun that was pointed to his side. And because of this, the blonde went into action. Jill, Barry, and Richard followed close behind. The man quickly turned around after hearing the footsteps, still having a hold on Chris. "Stop right there! Don't move or else this one will be full of lead!" The man shouted as he pressed the barrel harder against his side. Wesker immediately stopped, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. "Let him go." He demanded, his voice cold. "Get me inside the building." The man replied, not letting go of the other. "Let. Go. Of. Him. NOW." Possessive. Demanding. Frightening. The only words that could describe the blonde's demeanor at that very moment. The other three nearby have seen Wesker mad before, but like this? No way. And you already know that Richard would probably tell the others. The man gulped, feeling fear crawl up but he refused to let the younger male go. "I-I...just give me your weapons. N-Now!" "Listen, how about you lower your gun and-" "Shut up!" The man quickly raised his gun at Jill. Chris took the opportunity to attack. He twisted his body, harshly elbowing the man's face. Not it being enough to exactly knock him out, the man was able to shoot. But instead of shooting Jill, he shot where he originally had his gun aimed. Chris's side. Three shots were fired, each bullet piercing his side. Barry ran and tackled the man, disarming him. Jill, Richard, and Wesker rushed to Chris's side. Chris panted softly as he laid on the ground, blood staining his clothes. Wesker put pressure on the wound to slow down the bleeding, hopefully stopping it. The bullets had gone straight through so at least that didn't add to their list of problems. "Richard, get Rebecca." Wesker ordered. Richard nodded before quickly leaving. The blonde returned his attention to Chris. "Keep your eyes open, Christopher. You're going to be ok." He reasurred. Chris tried to keep his eyes open, which he did, but it was getting hard. He remained silent, focusing on his breathing and keeping his eyes open. But right when Rebecca arrived, his eyes drifted shut, darkness blocking his vision.
