Chapter 13

Ava's POV:

I started to wake up, feeling something heavy on me which made me open my eyes only to be met by a huge figure hugging me causing my breath to shorten as I begin to have a panic attack but when I was met by those beautiful hazel eyes I began to calm down a bit which made me wonder how did I relax with Matteo so close to me I'm always jumpy around men. When we made eye contact he let go of me and before he could say anything the door opened viewing rora rushing towards me worriedly.

"what happened? Are you okay?"

"no I'm not" I cried

"it's your father isn't it?"

I couldn't help but cry more when she asked that question so she took it as her queue to hug me but I winced a little because my body hurts so badly.

"V, you need to tell us what happened to help you, please"

"okay" I sighed heavily. "I'll tell you everything because I can't keep it a secret anymore and I can't step a foot in that house again"

"we were once a happy family, until one day my father and I feel embarrassed to even call that inhuman a father, lost a lot of money gambling and returned home drunk. When my mother saw his state she tried to calm him down and talk to him but he pushed her so hard that she fell on the floor, from that day the torture began to happen every day. And the photo of the happy family in my mind was shattered into million pieces"

I blinked the tears away as rora squeezed my hand reassuring me.

"he began to beat my mother everyday with the worst ways possible and raped her in front of eyes twice and I was just a kid.as a result she suffered from severe depression and started to take antidepressants until one day she couldn't take it anymore so she overdosed to take her own life away leaving me with that monster." By now I was sobbing hardly I couldn't breathe.

After I calmed down I continued "I was only 10 when I had to witness her death, and that was when my hell life started he kept beating us daily..."

"us?" rora interrupted

"yeah my brother and I, he took most of the beatings as we planned our escape, the day he became 18 he left and was supposed to come back and take me but that never happened, I wonder if he is even alive" I sighed wiping a tear that escaped my eyes

"when he found out that Oliver escaped he didn't take it well that I was in bed for 4 days unable to move, I thought about running away me too many times but you know my financial situation b-but what he tried when I left you guys was h-horrible" now my sobbing and stutter were back as I remembered that disgusting memory

"what happened?" it was now Matteo who interrupted angrily

"after the basic beating h-he tried to r-rape me but I ran before he can do anything"

"that son of a bitch" a guy standing next to rora shouted causing me to flinch which was noticed by Matteo who held my hand and glared to the guy then he ripped his hand away in confusion "calm it down Josh, what about the stab in your shoulder Ava?"

"y-yeah about that he stabbed me but then he tried stabbing me again and I pushed his hand causing the knife to fall which made him angrier and was about to punish me by rapping but I ran and tried to call Rose but she is camping with her boyfriend so I decided to come to rora which was not there but thankfully Matteo helped me, by the way I didn't have the chance to thank you properly really Matteo you saved my life thank you" I smiled to him

"no problem you should've told us earlier" he scolded me

"Josh come with me" he nodded his head toward the door with josh following him leaving me with a tear-stained face rora

"V, I'm so sorry you had to go through all this but I'm here now, why didn't you tell me earlier I could've helped you, you know who Matteo is I can't get why didn't you say anything" she sighed heavily leaving me dumbfounded

"what do you mean 'who Matteo is'?" I asked her sniffling

"The Mafia King?" she sounded like asking

"hahaha, nice joke what a way to cheer me up" but I found her looking at me as if I grew 2 heads

"its not a joke he is the mafia king Ava"

"wait you're serio.." I was cut by the door opening harshly met by Matteo and Josh looking at Aurora who is laughing her heart out at my reaction with a questioning look on their faces.

"why is she laughing like that?" josh asked with a smile on his face

"she she sh-shee" I looked down at my lap embaressed and slitly afraid from Matteo

"okay" she coughed calming down wiping her face "she didn't know who you were which iss proving my point that you're not that famous big bro" she glared at him playfully

"ouch, I'm offended now Ava it looks like I need to up my game" he said winking at me and I chocked on my spit causing them to laugh and Matteo to smirk

"laughing aside, you're not going back to that place you're staying with us from now on" he returned back to his cold state.

I was about to open my mouth to disagree but he gave me the 'don't you dare argue' look as rora attacked me with a bear hug for the I lost count times "I found myself a roommate" earning a chuckle from all of us even Matteo which surprised me

And for the first time since I was 10 I felt safe!
