The Aftermath

Chapter Three

"You know, I see you" Allie said wriggling her eyebrows. We walked into school the next morning wishing that Summer wasn't over
Lucky for Allie, Dad agreed to her staying over last night in the plan she would take me to school the next day
"What do you mean" I asked opening my locker
"I mean, I'm sure Josh is amazing but Hayden is the person you'll end up with" She said grinning cheesily
"What are you talking about?" I asked putting my bag inside

"Don't act like that song from last night wasn't about how the two of you fell in love" She said making me widen my eyes slightly
"OH IT IS!" She yelled grabbing some peoples attention

"What is this commotion" Jason asked wrapping his arm around his girlfriend as the boys joined us. All that was left was the newbies
"nothing" Allie and I said at the exact some time
"Secrets again? What a way to start the year! Did we not learn anything from last year?" Nathan asked pointing between Hayden and I
"Dude I'm not involved" Hayden answered

but little did he know...

It was my Free Period and for the first time ever, I had some company
"It sucks we aren't in many lesson's together" Josh said pecking my lips as we attempted to study
"Your in Music and my Gym" I said and he chuckled nodding
"but like that's what 6 hours in the week?" he asked

"And then there is our Frees and seeing each other at lunch and after school" I offered him making him sigh and nod
"I guess I'm just worried that now we've spent every waking minute together this summer, the distance might be a little too much" He said and I shook my head

"If we can't handle that then I think we need to sit down and have a long hard talk" I said making him chuckle
"That is true" He said kissing my again 

Before either of us could do anything else, the bell signalling new period rung and for me that was English with the boys and for Josh that was Maths with Allie 

As I walked into the same old English room, I took a seat in our usual spot assuming the boys would want to follow suit
Of course I was right when they walked in but they weren't alone. Lucie was with them
She took one look at me before looking at Hayden as he took a seat next to me
Without saying another word she bowed her head taking a seat in the seat that once was Maddy's 

"Careful Luce, your sat in the cursed seat" Nathan teased making me roll my eyes
"What? Why?" She asked 
"The girl who sat there last attempted to come between these two and the vanished" Jason said before he alongside Nathan made a whooshing noise shaking their hands

"Ignore the idiots" Hayden laughed but Lucie took one look at me slightly confused and concerned
"The girl who sat there once, dated Hayden then cheated and moved away. When she returned we were dating and she attempted to black mail Hayden into a relationship with her instead" I explained

"Whatever did happen to her?" I asked looking at the boys who all shrugged
"Let's hope she does not return please" Hayden said making me chuckle
"Why not? You're a free man now. She has a shot" I teased 
"Free man sure but her having a shot? I'd have to be dead Bry" he said with his signature smirk that only ever comes out when he's in the mood to joke around

"So you two have been through a lot then" Lucie laughed making Hayden and I snap out of our gaze
"Oh hell yeah!" Jase said 
"it went from Bryony ignoring Hayden's existence to them being inseparable" Nathan said
"From not speaking a word to ditching us at a party and talking for hours" Jason said
"OH! And it went from them both being polar opposites to knowing each other like the back of each others hands" Nathan said

I looked at Hayden who rolled his eyes chuckling before shaking his head

"She gets it guys" Hayden said and I nodded
"Yeah let's change subject yeah?" I asked

Hayden smiled at me again rubbing the side of my arm as if apologising..
But what was he apologising for?
