ch 4

As Kayla walked into the boarding house texting Caroline she called out for Zach.

"I'm back Zach! Just gonna change my clothes"

When she received no response she shrugged and started make her way upstairs when she heard sound coming from the dining room causing her to pause.

Kayla reached into her bag and pulled out her taser and phone, dialing Liz number only getting her voice mail

"Damn" She whispered and put the phone back in her pocket before reaching back in her bag and grabbing her pepper spray, slowly walking towards the room with her finger on the tasers trigger.

When she rounded the corner she saw the window open and a crow resting on the windowsill.
"You've got to be kidding me. I was really about to tase this bird"
Kayla rolled her eyes and put the weapons on the table before waving the bird out the window

"Who left the damn window open anyway. I didn't even know that window opened" The teen grabbed her items off the table after closing and locking the window, then began to walk upstairs to change her clothes

2 hours later after she figured out an outfit and made her self a snack, she went back downstairs about to leave when she saw Zach coming inside.

"Hey Kayla, how was school?" Zach questioned with a grin as he put down the grocery bags and hugged the girl

The teenager Salvatore grinned back returning the hug "It was okay for school. I actually have something really really great to tell you"
"Oh? Well grab a bag and let's go to the kitchen"

The father-daughter duo walked to the kitchen both holding bags
"Does this great news have to do with Carol finally getting you to not back out of Miss Mystic Falls?" Zach teased as he started unbagging items

"No it does not old man. It's so much better. Ms. Alexis told me that one of her previous students has an open spot at his new gallery that opens in February and she recommended me!"
Kayla smiled yelling in excitement

Zach stopped putting food away to turn to his daughter "That's so amazing. I'm so proud of you. I'm gonna buy your first piece. I'll tell Liz and she and Caroline can ride with us there and when your paintings hang in the Louvre, I'll buy all the tickets"

Kayla laughed listening to the man ramble "You sound just like Caroline"

Zach smiled and pulled the girl into another hug, "Your mother would be so proud that you were able to hang your first ever art piece in a gallery"

The only female Salvatore smiled somberly and tightened her arms around her father figure
"Thank you. Really."

The duo released themselves from the hug as The older Salvatore went back to putting the groceries up

"I'm about to head out to meet with Mrs. Lockwood, but before I go" Kayla started as she grabbed her keys
"You forgot to close and lock the dinning room window before you left"

Zach turned to her confused "What?"
"Yea, the window in the dinning room was open. A whole bird was sitting there, I thought someone broke in, I was about to tase them" Kayla continued

"The dining room windows don't open?"
"That's what I said! But apparently they do, if you didn't open it maybe Stefan did, actually never mind it was definitely you...or someone broke in. Cause Stefan walked home, I drove and I left before him" Kayla tensed
