The Rover
I gazed out the window, seeing the familiar pathway to the Ark.
The lower parts of the rise had once been covered with forest. The fighting and turmoil had scorched the trees into charred trunks.
"Becca's journal is amazing." Raven said as she flipped through pages.
I learned that Clarke had been gifted it from Titus, the flame keeper and Lexa's murderer. He entrusted Clarke with Becca's journal and the flame.
"At 26, she found a pathway to access a human mind. That same year, she had to lock up A.L.I.E. because her answer for what was wrong with the world was 'too many people'. She was only 27 when it launched the bombs."
I already knew her part of her story, understood her relation to me, but I didn't know how to tell them, or if I even should. Iko warned me against it. If another nightblood found out that I was one, they would try to kill me. I decided to keep it quiet.
"What did she write about the Flame?" Clarke asked.
From the journal, Raven read, "A.L.I.E. 2.0. She saw it as a way to atone for her sins. She designed it to not just access a human mind, but to merge with one. It could never wipe us out because it would be one of us. She would put it in herself first. Altered her genes so her body wouldn't reject the implant. She had a daughter before she came to earth, but records and her name are unknown."
"Bekka Pramheda, the first Commander," Clarke said. "The gene therapy made her blood black, didn't it?"
Raven nodded. "Yeah."
I glanced over at Bellamy in the driver's seat. His concerned eyes met mine.
Octavia asked, "How did you know that?"
"Nightblood. That's where it came from. Somehow it became hereditary. Luna has it. That's why we have to find her. If she can access A.L.I.E. 2..."
I turned around in the seat. "So we can stop A.L.I.E. We just need a nightblood?"
She nodded. "Yes. Lincoln's friend Luna is the last nightblood besides Ontari. We need to find her. Soon."
Bellamy ordered, "Eyes sharp. Weapons hot. We're almost home."
Bellamy, over radio: Miller, come in.
The radio gave no response.
Bellamy, over radio: Harper, you there? Your ride's two minutes out.
Jasper mumbled, "Great start."
We came to a stop right inside of the gates of Arkadia. I dropped to my feet, thankful my leg had healed enough to walk.
It was empty. Not a soul in sight, but not a dead body either. There was no attempt of struggle.
Falling into formation as a group, we sauntered into the camp. Monty slowly drove the rover in behind us. A low bank of fog poured in, making everything more eerie.
