Nailea stifled her breaths, pressed against a brick wall. She patiently waited for a sound. The crunching of shoes against sand warned her that someone was getting closer.

Just as a guard's footsteps grew louder
and the tip of his gun was visible past the corner. She reached out, pulling the gun out of his grasp and elbowing the man in the face. He fell on his back with a pained groan, which got cut off when she put a bullet through his chest.

The girl dragged the body away, slipping in his uniform before burying him in the sand. As if nothing happened, she was walking through the blinding white hallways of the W.C.K.D building. Her thought-out plan worked and she was able to enter the premises, unseen.

The guard's suit draped loosely on her body, largely oversized but at this moment, that was the least of her problems. Each time Nailea inhaled, she was met with an awful stench of tuna and mayo. Couldn't the guard have had something else as a meal? She thought to herself.

"Escort us, would you?"

Nailea turned to the source of the voice, finding herself in front of two teenagers in neat, white lab coats. Each of them with a name tag that indicated they were doctors.

Dr. Teresa as well as Dr. Aris

The boy - Aris - had short brown hair and bright blue eyes. The girl - Teresa - had long silky black hair, blue eyes as well. Though, the blue in her eyes were more on the navy side of the blue spectrum.

Nailea nodded firmly and followed them down the halls. She had studied this exact building from afar for years, it was overwhelming to see everything up close. Every room they passed, she observed, noticing that each door had exactly four names carved into it.

Her eyes mindlessly skimmed over every name without any recognition, except one room. She saw three names that she bother to pay attention to, but the last one was her brother's name.

Nailea quickly halted at the sight of it without realizing, causing Teresa to mumble angrily with a clear tone of attitude in her words.

"What are you doing? Keep walking."

She gave a quick nod, mentally scolding herself for getting distracted.

Once they've arrived at their destination, Nailea stood quietly at the door with a firm stance. The gun in her hand was held closely by her side as she looked around the room. The walls were covered in televisions, each one displaying what looked like live security camera footage. They were all different angles of the same place. Or it at least looked like it.

Some screens showed a large patch of greenery, while others showed tall metal walls — so tall that it made the trees look like ants. The more she looked at it, the clearer it got. They weren't just any walls. They were maze walls.

"The mazes are prepared for the first subjects to enter."

She was right.

While Nailea was out in the scorch living on her own, she had rigged one of the radios she found and connected it to W.C.K.D so she'd be able to eavesdrop on their conversations. That's why she knew what they meant by 'subjects', though she never heard them talk about mazes before.

She also overheard that scientists and doctors have discovered that the virus transmits to the person's brain, causing them to lose their senses and transform into something that can only be described as inhuman. Which is why she understood that they were monitoring the kid's brains. W.C.K.D mentioned giving them missions that challenge their mentality. Doctors have not yet found the reason behind the immunity that the group of teens carry.
