[Third Person...]

"Mommy!"

Yelled a child at Doña Aurora's daycare, which is more of a house than a real daycare place, but that is what you get when you live in the ghetto.

You were there to try to get Doña to bring her prices down for you, she would charge you pretty cheap to watch her, even nightly. Especially now that you're going to need her to watch her more. Although she decided it was the best time to raise the prices up.

"Can you please tell your mom that there's no one else I can afford in town, I'll pay her back when I get the money!" You begged her daughter who was basically her translator, you were too tired to speak your native language.

She translated what you said, Doña only shaking her head.

"Lo siento, pero no puedo. [I'm sorry, but I can't.]" Doña apologized, you sighed before nodding.

"I know..." you said picking up Ceci who was now teething, with a toy in her mouth making her own little baby sounds.

"Gracias por todo. [Thank you for everything.]" was the last thing you said before carrying Ceci out. You sighed rubbing your eyes in stress and frustration down the steps of the porch to Ivan's car where you put Ceci into her car seat in the back.

"So, what she say?" He asked curiously

"She can't take my payments, at least, not the ones I can afford anyway." You sighed rubbing your face in frustration

"Ask el muerte. [the death]" Which is what a lot of the gang members call Danny, no one else except those close to Danny were allowed to call him his first name. Everyone else used nicknames, for cops and such as that.

"I think he's my problem."

"What you talking about?" Jefé asked

"Doña has always had the same prices since we were kids, I think it's less to do with needing more money and more to do with this." You said pointing to the tattoo just below the inside of your elbow on your forearm. The norté bird.

"Nah, cause' everyone on the block has always known you been rockin' with us since day one. Why now?"

"I wasn't fully affiliated back then..."

"I think you're overthinking it cuz."

You shrugged looking out the window as Ivan drove off.

When you got to Ivan's place you picked up Ceci from her car seat and carried her to the front porch steps where you seen Rafael smoking a blunt and holding a bottle of coke. Ivan walked inside without acknowledging Rafael there, closing both doors to the house to give you your privacy.

"Long time no see, where have you been?" You asked curiously

"Searching for ma, she's been missing for about two weeks now... where's Joker?" He asked about Cesar

"I'm sure she'll show up somewhere unconscious ready to drain us a few grand to have her stomach pumped. Ces [Sés] is at a friends house." You informed him, he nodded before putting the blunt between his lips to hold and reach out for Ceci, you handed her over deciding your arms needed a break as you sat next to him taking the blunt from his mouth and taking a few small puffs out of it.

You weren't the biggest smoker.

"How's Max?" He asked about your now ex-girlfriend.

"Broke up."

"Fuck... that's tough." He said bouncing Ceci in his lap as she giggled playing with his hands.

"Yep." You said deciding your needed to take another puff, blowing it out before handing it back to your brother and taking the baby from his lap.
